Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the September 11 edition of "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Q94 Classic Rock!

We headed back to the mailboxes this week to check out more new local and regional recordings that have arrived in recent weeks. That again meant a lot of new songs received their first "Homegrown Rocker" airplay this week - we checked out new numbers from Letters to Anthony, Cody Tyler & Gypsy Convoy, Alex Shumaker, Hickory Bottom Band, Ride The Song, Jon Osman, Jukehouse Bombers, Threshold Of Insanity, Doctor Smoke, Anthrophobia and Less Than Zero! We also updated "Local Music News," and stepped "Across State Lines" twice to hear tunes from Kentucky-based national recording group Tantric (who performed at McGarvey's in Altoona on September 8) and Baltimore's Silvertung. And following the sad news of the passing of Somerset-based singer, songwriter and former "Homegrown Rocker" guest Michael Reich, we played two of Michael's songs - a 1989 number from Mike Reich & Segue, and a 2003 solo number - for a "Local Music Flashback" tribute. (For those who missed the program, a four-part podcast of this show is available for listening or download from Q94's website, www.q94classicrock.com. Click on "The Professor's Classroom," and then scroll down to "Homegrown Rocker Podcast" and look for the four show segments marked with the date, 090422.)

Here is this week's playlist (with spotlighted musicians in parentheses):

We welcome a guest via phone during our next program, as we speak with Lancaster area musician Ben Swaner! We'll learn Ben's story and hear some of his song creations! We'll also update "Local Music News," dig out a "Local Music Flashback," step "Across State Lines" to hear music from an independent band or artist from outside the state, and review Dr. Chance Bartleby's Drum The Soup CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!" Hear the "Homegrown Rocker" this Sunday night (September 18) on Q94 Classic Rock - 94.3 FM and online at www.q94classicrock.com!

In Local Music News...

The annual Rock For Life concert series and its associated events are seeking a new home. The organizers of the annual charity rock concert event were informed during the past week that the event will no longer be taking place at the Iselin Ballfield in western Indiana County, and the search is on for a new venue to stage the event. Since 2000, the two-day Rock For Life in early August has raised money to help out needy individuals " particularly children " in western PA who are suffering from life-threatening and debilitating health conditions.

We report sad news from the Somerset County music scene this past week with the unexpected passing of musician, singer and songwriter Michael Reich on Labor Day; Michael was 63. A Johnstown native, Michael grew up in Meyersdale, and worked in radio before becoming a professional musician. He released an initial album with a band project called Segue in 1989, before releasing three solo albums in the early 2000s. He attended and performed at the annual Millennium Music Conference several times, and was a guest on the “Homegrown Rocker” three times during the program’s early years.

And singer Scott Robleski, who fronted Altoona-based rock band Five Nations in the early 1990s along with regional rock powerhouse Heaven Tonight, is coming out of live music retirement to take over singing duties with Williamsport-based 1980s hair-band rockers Hairbourne. Scott’s first performance with the group will happen on October 29 at the Valley Inn in Duboistown.
