Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the January 15 edition of "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Q94 Classic Rock (www.q94classicrock.com), and from 10 PM to midnight on 107.1 and 101.3 Jack FM (www.1071jack.fm)!

We welcomed our first musical guests of 2023 on this week's program, as Darrell Adams and Marisa Dawson - Lehigh Valley acoustic pair, the DMC Duo - joined us via phone! We learned how the pair first got together, discussed their career, live show and music, and heard several recorded songs that will be on their forthcoming debut album! We also updated "Local Music News," dug a 2012 number from Altoona's Rail Must Fall from the archive for a "Local Music Flashback," stepped "Across State Lines" to hear a song from Outer Banks, North Carolina rock'n'rollers Bill & Friends, and reviewed Dustin Rainey's Foolish album in "The Professor's CD Corner!" (For those who missed the program, a four-part podcast of this show is available for listening or download from Q94's website, www.q94classicrock.com. Click on "The Professor's Classroom," and then scroll down to "Homegrown Rocker Podcast" and look for the four show segments marked with the date, 011523.)

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

MATT OTIS & THE SOUND - "Make"
CHRIS RATTIE & THE NEW REBELS - "That's Being There"
DMC DUO - "Loved You Anyway"
KYLOR WESTBROOK - "Soul"

KILMAINE SAINTS - "Gold and Guns (Will Get the Job Done)"
DMC DUO - "Simple Rain"

We'll again spotlight a lot of new music - hear new songs from Matt Otis & the Sound, The Heathen Parade, Hunter Root, The Heartstrings, Cpt. Bisquick, Yigga Digga, Gun Metal Gray and more! More information has been announced for the return of the “Crazy Fest” Amateur Youth Talent Show. According to one of the event’s organizers, area musician Elaini Arthur, “Crazy Fest” will take place on Sunday afternoon, April 23, starting at 1 p.m. at the Juniata Civic Center in Altoona. More details will be forthcoming. Started by area entertainer Dennie Huber in 1990, “Crazy Fest” enjoyed a 25-year run as a showcase for youngsters to demonstrate their performing talents, from singing to dancing to playing instruments, doing magic and much more in front of a friendly and supportive audience. Dennie passed away in June, 2016. Elaini and other organizers of the event will be guests to discuss the return of “Crazy Fest” on the April 16 edition of the “Homegrown Rocker.”

The Gallitzin Fire Company has announced the continuation of its annual St. Patrick’s Day celebration. “Dauber’s 13th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Party” will take place on Saturday, March 18 starting at 5 p.m. at the Gallitzin American Legion’s Oriental Ballroom in Gallitzin. The event had been organized by the fire company’s life member and former chief Christopher “Dauber” Cox. “Dauber” passed away last August after a courageous battle with cancer. This year’s event will again include dinner and refreshments, plus live music from Full Kilt and the Giants Of Science. For more information and to obtain tickets, visit the fire company’s website, www.gallitzinfire71.com/store.

Hate Grenade has announced tour plans in support of their forthcoming brand new album, iSociety. The album will be released on January 31. The tour will kick off in Rochester, New York on February 23, before landing at McGarvey’s in Altoona on February 24. The tour will the proceed southward, with concert dates in Virginia, Georgia and Alabama, with more dates to be added and announced. Hate Grenade will preview the new iSociety album on the January 29 edition of the “Homegrown Rocker.”

And a name change for popular Morgantown, West Virginia bluegrass performers The Hillbilly Gypsies. Due to recent issues that have surfaced in society regarding the word Gypsy, the group has decided to rename themselves the Hillbilly Biscuits.
