Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the February 19 edition of "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Q94 Classic Rock (www.q94classicrock.com), and from 10 PM to midnight on 107.1 and 101.3 Jack FM (www.1071jack.fm)!

Band guests again visited our studio this week, as we welcomed rising area youth rockers The Pines (ThePinesPA.com)! We met the band members and learned their story, discussed their music and live show (with additional insight from Dave Villani, also in the studio), and aired some recorded songs from their upcoming debut EP! Plus the group brought instruments and did some songs live, showing their classic rock/hit influences by doing numbers from Bill Withers, King Harvest and the Eagles! We also debuted a new song by Pittsburgh's Radio 45, updated "Local Music News," and remembered Pittsburgh singer Tim Aymar (see "Local Music News" below) for our "Local Music Flashback" feature by playing three songs featuring Tim from Triple X, Psycho Scream and Synesthesia! (For those who missed the program, a four-part podcast of this show is available for listening or download from Q94's website, www.q94classicrock.com. Click on "The Professor's Classroom," and then scroll down to "Homegrown Rocker Podcast" and look for the four show segments marked with the date, 021923.)

In Local Music News...

The PennSoulvanians have announced they will soon be entering the studio to record a five song EP. The group has begun an Indiegogo fundraising campaign to raise money to finance the project, and has so far raised nearly 50 percent of their target goal. Anybody interested in donating to help them reach that goal may access their Indiegogo page through Indiegogo.com or through the PennSoulvanians' social media pages.

An area musician and his family lost their home to fire last weekend. A prominent member of the regional bluegrass community and longtime stage manager for the annual Smoked Country Jam Bluegrass Festival, Ben Rapp, his wife Elaine and four children lost everything, including a pet cat and dog, after fire destroyed their house last Saturday (February 11). Ben also lost almost all of his instruments and photography gear. A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to raise money to help Ben and his family get back on their feet. The webpage for the campaign can be accessed the Facebook pages for both Ben Rapp and Smoked Country Jam.

And we report sad news from the western PA music scene with the unexpected passing of singer Tim Aymar on Tuesday (February 14). He was 59. Tim became known to western and central PA music fans as the singer for popular 1980s and 90s Pittsburgh area heavy metal bands 313, Triple X and Psycho Scream. He then attained some national notoriety later in the 1990s when he teamed up with Death lead singer and guitarist Chuck Schuldiner in the progressive metal band Control Denied, which released one album before Schuldiner passed in 2001. More recently, Tim fronted Philadelphia-based power-metal band Pharaoh from 1998 until his passing, as well as the Pittsburgh-based Helios and Pittsburgh heavy rock studio project Synesthesia.

That's a look at “Local Music News.” Bands and artists with news items to report on the program may email their information to homegrownrocker@gmail.com.
