Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the March 12 edition of "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Q94 Classic Rock (www.q94classicrock.com), and from 10 PM to midnight on 107.1 and 101.3 Jack FM (www.1071jack.fm)!

Thanks to this week's guest, Don Hughes (www.donhughesmusic.com), for joining us in the studio! An Altoona native now calling Pittsburgh home, Don recently issued two new keyboard-rooted instrumental albums - his latest original music album Universal Language, and his album of video game music interpretations called The Gaming Jukebox. Don talked about both albums and the inspirations behind them, and we heard tracks from both! We also spoke via phone with Jim Nagle, the Fire Chief of Gallitzin Fire Company No. 1, to discuss "Dauber's 13th Annual St. Patrick's Day Party," which happens on March 18 at the Gallitzin American Legion's Oriental Ballroom! In addition, we debuted new songs from Yigga Digga, StoneMan, Crazed Visions and The Mandibles; updated "Local Music News," dug a 1987 number from State College's The Basement Band from the archive for a "Local Music Flashback," and reviewed The Badlees' self-titled album in "The Professor's CD Corner!" (For those who missed the program, a four-part podcast of this show is available for listening or download from Q94's website, www.q94classicrock.com. Click on "The Professor's Classroom," and then scroll down to "Homegrown Rocker Podcast" and look for the four show segments marked with the date, 031223.)

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

INFUSED - "It's Coming Home"
DUSTIN RAINEY - "Fortune Teller"
DON HUGHES - "Aftermath"
YIGGA DIGGA - "Bone Crackin' Magic"

THE BADLEES - "Faces Under Glass" (CD Corner)

THE BASEMENT BAND - "All My Love's Gone Dry" (1987, Local Music Flashback)

Since our next program happens to close out St. Patrick's Day weekend, we logically will present the 2023 installment of our annual "St. Patrick's Day Special!" We'll hear the area music scene get its Irish up as we spotlight local and regional bands and artists with a wee bit of Irish and Celtic flavors in their music! Hear original songs and renditions of Irish folk favorites from such area and regional favorites as Full Kilt, The Irish Pretenders, Tree, The Kilmaine Saints, Bastard Bearded Irishmen, Celtic Wood & Wires, Lucky Lad Green and more! Plus we'll hear a previously-unreleased track from former State College Irish punk rockers The Clover! Hear the "Homegrown Rocker" this Sunday night (March 12) on Q94 Classic Rock - 94.3 FM and online at www.q94classicrock.com, and on 107.1 and 101.3 Jack FM, online at www.1071jack.fm!

In Local Music News...

Los Lobos, Keller Williams' Grateful Grass featuring The Hillbenders and Gabe Stillman are three of the highlight performers who will appear at the 2023 edition of the Flood City Music Festival. Announced earlier this month, this year's festival will take place on Friday and Saturday, August 4 and 5, in and around People's Natural Gas Park near downtown Johnstown. The Friday slate features Keller Williams' Grateful Grass with the Hillbenders and Gabe Stillman, along with The Mallet Brothers Band, The Jaded Lips, Jeff Webb & the Delectable Sound, Doom Flamingo and Yam Yam. Saturday's lineup features Los Lobos, along with The Platelets, Big Sandy & His Fly-Rite Boys, The Evergreens, Melt, Trouble No More, Chalk Dinosaur and Dogs In A Pile. Two-day VIP and General Admission passes are on sale at early-bird prices at www.floodcitymusic.com.

A Celebration of Life and Benefit in memory of Lance Ross has been established. The event will take place on Saturday afternoon, April 22, on the outdoor deck at The Freight Station in Johnstown. The event will celebrate and honor Lance, the owner of The Freight Station, who died as a result of homicide on February 20. Bands performing at the event will be The Desperadoes, This Indecision and Octane. There will also be fire twirling by Flo N'At, plus Belly Busters food truck will be available. The event will begin at 2 p.m. Donation will be $10 per person, and the event is for those 21 and older.

A bass player has stepped aboard with Altoona punk and metal rockers The BSXpress. Nick Bayer has joined the group, which now expands into a trio. Nick made his onstage debut with The BSXpress earlier this month at McGarvey's.

That's a look at “Local Music News.” Bands and artists with news items to report on the program may email their information to homegrownrocker@gmail.com.
