Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the May 8 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBRX 94.3 and WBXQ 94.7.

Once in a while, things on the “Backyard Rocker” don’t go quite as planned. Shortly before this week’s show, we learned that our scheduled guests, Harrisburg’s Hierosonic, were unable to join us because of two band members’ family members experiencing health problems earlier in the day. Minutes after Hierosonic called to inform us of this development, we received another call, from Dragon Fire lead throat “Robo” Ron Riley. We had originally planned to air a pre-recorded conversation with Dragon Fire during part of the program, but suddenly with no band guests in studio, Ron rounded up the other Dragon Fire troops, and Dragon Fire were our guests during the program’s second hour. Dragon Fire discussed their return to stage action after a four-year layoff and separation, their plans for a CD and DVD, and their upcoming official return performance in the Altoona area May 14. This made for an interesting musical menu of varied sounds during the first hour, shifting heavier, monstrous and metallic during the second hour. Thanks to Dragon Fire for some explosive conversation, and to “Robo” Ron for cleaning the oxides off our transmitter; my ears are still ringing!

We featured several songs from our would-be guests, Hierosonic, our eventual guests, Dragon Fire, and debuted new music from Third Standard, Sweet Medicine and Gasoline Dion.

Here is this week’s playlist:

HOUR ONE:

THE FLAME SKY – “Only In Your Head”
THE GRIMM – “Forced Reflection”
HIEROSONIC – “Before Autumn”
CONDITION K – “On A Sunday”
THIRD STANDARD – “I”
FLIGHT 19 – “Migraine”
HIEROSONIC – “Talisman”
WISKERBISKET – “Killer”
SWEET MEDICINE – “Mental”
BACKSTREET LAW – “Fallen”
NITEKAST – “Happiness Pills”

HOUR TWO:

JOSA STEP – “Lacerta”
RECTIFIER – “Drama Queen”
DRAGON FIRE – “Cutting Dead Weight”
GASOLINE DION – “Pickle Farm”
DRAGON FIRE – “Rush”
HIEROSONIC – “Something”
DRAGON FIRE – “You Thought”

This coming Sunday night, our guests in the studio will be Altoona classic rockers Sidestep. Featuring four seasoned vets of the area music scene, Sidestep recently completed recording their debut EP. We’ll hear songs from the EP, and lucky listeners will have chances to win a copy. Plus Sidestep will bring instruments and play a song or two for us live! In addition, we’ll update Local Music News, and review the new Fat Vinny & the Wiseguys CD, “Tight Play,” on “The Professor’s CD Corner.” Sidestep pays us a visit, this Sunday night on the “Backyard Rocker!”
