Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the September 4 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBRX 94.3 and WBXQ 94.7.

In honor of the Labor Day holiday weekend, there were no guests or specials on this week’s program, just two solid hours of maximum local and regional bands and artists. We checked on Local Music News, and we reviewed Nitekast’s latest CD, 13th Of Friday, in “The Professor’s CD Corner.” (The review will be posted on the “Backyard Rocker” page on Q94’s website, www.wbxq.com, later this week.) And along the way, we debuted new tunes from Vertigo Haze, The Lampshades, Spoonchatter, Todd Hinkle, Sticker, Kairos and Copper Seven.

Here is this week’s playlist:

HOUR ONE:

BLIND JONNY DEATH – “That Girl Is Hot”
THE MARAUDERS – “Dead Of Night”
SUPER NO. 7 – “Loaded Gun”
VS. THE EARTH – “Midsummer’s Nightmare”
THE FLAME SKY – “The Price You Pay”
BALISTIC – “One Of Seven”
VERTIGO HAZE – “The Power Of Hate”
FAT VINNY & THE WISEGUYS – “Lucky Charm”
THE LAMPSHADES – “Magic”
SPOONCHATTER – “Bunk”
TODD HINKLE – “Send Me On My Way”

HOUR TWO:

HIEROSONIC – “Before Autumn”
ANYTHING JANE – “Save Yourself”
BACKSTREET LAW – “Till December”
NITEKAST – “Humidity”
SEVER – “Fall Away”
STICKER – “Beautiful Someday”
KAIROS – “Loss of Supplication”
SOVEREN – “Blood Money”
COPPER SEVEN – “Perfect Day”
WHITE WITCH – “Rawhead Rex”

Guess what? No guests or specials next Sunday, either! As we did this week, we’ll again give you maximum local and regional music; debuting a number of new songs, again updating Local Music News, and reviewing another new local/regional album on “The Professor’s CD Corner.” Once again, maximum local and regional music, next Sunday night on the “Backyard Rocker!”

In Local Music News…

In the wake of the Hurricane Katrina disaster, benefits to help out the relief efforts are coming together. The first one will be this Wednesday evening, as the Blair County Community Action Agency will present a benefit concert to help with Hurricane Katrina relief and recovery. The concert begins Wednesday at 5 PM at Heritage Plaza in downtown Altoona. At this point, the band Big Mac'N Fries (featuring members of Square One, Flight 19, Pastime Band, Prime Time and more) will be performing, with members of at least six other bands taking part. According to Blair County Community Action Agency executive director Allan Robison, any musicians who want to bring instruments and take part are welcome to do so.

After six years away from area stages, veteran area guitarist Barry Steindel is back in action with a new acoustic trio, Mudbone. Barry, known for his prior stints in Tight Squeeze, Detour, The Blaylocks, Barry & Maureen and more, shares the stage with Bruce Forr and Todd Geist. The trio made their first area appearance this past Wednesday night in the Altoona area.

Former Juiced and Creamsicle singer Carrie Rapaport has hooked up with a new band out west. She is now singing for the Los Angeles-based band Cakecutter.

Several changes behind the drum kits for some local and regional bands:

Drummer Kevin Siegel has parted ways with the group Gin & Juice, citing family obligations. The parting is on friendly terms, and Kevin played his final show with the group last Saturday night in the Altoona area. Gin & Juice’s new drummer is Kyle Kovach.

The band Balistic has parted ways with drummer Don Hosler, and is now seeking both a new drummer and a new bass player. Musicians interested in auditioning for either position may find out more by visiting Balistic’s website, www.balistic.com.
