Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the September 25 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBRX 94.3 and WBXQ 94.7.

Revving Harleys and driving rock’n’roll were key ingredients in this week’s edition of the “Backyard Rocker,” thanks to our guests this week, Philipsburg-Osceola-based rockers Wide Open (www.wideopenrocks.com). We heard tracks from Wide Open’s rip-roaring debut album, “First Ride,” and the band members offered their thoughts on the band and the music. Several lucky listeners won copies of the album. Also, since two of Wide Open’s members are guitarist/singer Vincent Youngbauer and singer/guitarist Matt Socoski, we reminisced both musicians’ former bands, Lyssa and Slammer, with songs from each as “Local Music Flashbacks.”

Along the way, we checked on Local Music News, we reviewed Kairos’ new CD, “Rethink: Reshape” in “The Professor’s CD Corner” (the review’s text is on Q94’s website, www.wbxq.com), and we debuted new music from Fayted and Icarus Witch.

Here is this week’s playlist:

HOUR ONE:

TONY MOLLICK PROJECT – “Sweet Sister”
FAYTED – “Keep Smilin’”
WIDE OPEN – “Revin’ It Up”
ROADKILL – “RK2K2”
WIDE OPEN – “Polish My Chrome”
LYSSA – “Under Attack” (1987, Local Music Flashback)
WIDE OPEN – “Eat My Dust”
ICARUS WITCH – “Storming the Castle”

HOUR TWO:

THE FLAME SKY – “Only In Your Head”
WIDE OPEN – “Layin’ It Down”
KAIROS – “Futility”
WIDE OPEN – “Killing Time”
SLAMMER – “Locked Up” (1993, Local Music Flashback)
WIDE OPEN – “Casting Shadows”
WIDE OPEN – “Twist the Grip”

Next Sunday night, our guest will be Dave Buzard. Formerly the guitarist for Ask A Stranger in the early 90’s, Dave these days is the mastermind behind his studio creation, Project Twelve(34). We’ll hear tracks from the just-completed new Project Twelve(34) album, “Before Twilight,” and get Dave’s thoughts on his latest musical endeavors. Dave Buzard joins us in the studio, next Sunday night on the “Backyard Rocker!”

Forthcoming guests and specials include:

OCT. 9 – Acoustic Jam Special 4
OCT. 16 – AHRT Rocky Horror Preview
OCT. 30 – Inversion/Halloween Special
NOV. 6 – Michael Reich

In Local Music News…

Another Hurricane Katrina benefit concert will be taking place this coming Thursday evening, Sept. 29. City Limits in Altoona will host the benefit, with proceeds going to the American Red Cross. The show will start at 8 PM, and will feature music from Matthew Burns plus several other acoustic performers, followed by several bands, including In, Gin & Juice and Under One. A benefit concert to remember the victims of the recent UVA Club shootings and raise money for the surviving families will be taking place on Thursday, Oct. 13 at Pellegrine’s in Altoona. Bands scheduled to perform at the benefit include In, Hair Force One and Green Eggs.

You’ll be seeing more of Fat Vinny on area stages. With the blessing of his Wiseguys bandmates, E.Vincent “Fat Vinny” Kelly has begun a solo acoustic live act outside of the band; that act recently made its debut on area stages. In this solo venture, Fat Vinny performs a mix of blues, classic rock songs, a number of surprises, original songs and more. A Fat Vinny solo album is in the planning stages.

Speedy recovery wishes go out to Victory In Heaven Blues Band sound engineer Marty Bennicoff. Marty and his family were injured recently when a large grain truck broadsided their van at an intersection in eastern PA. Marty suffered a fractured pelvis and facial injuries, but is expected to make a full recovery.

Singer/guitarist Jack Servello has left the Prime Time Band, to devote more of his energies to his family music group, The Servello Family.

Time is running out for your opportunity to win a guitar autographed by George Thorogood from the organization Get Closer to The Music. The guitar is an acoustic/electric Applause guitar by Ovation with gig bag. The guitar was signed by George Thorogood at the recent August 13 show at Post Gazette Pavilion near Pittsburgh. Tickets to win the guitar are $5 each, and the winner will be determined on October 15, based on the Pennsylvania Lottery Daily number for that evening. All proceeds from the guitar raffle benefit Get Closer To The Music in their mission to introduce youngsters to the world of music.
