Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the October 16 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBRX 94.3 and WBXQ 94.7.

It was a bit of déjà vu this week, as one of last week’s guests returned this week on a different mission! John Charney didn’t bring his double-neck Ovation guitar along this week. Instead, John, the musical director for Allegheny Highlands Regional Theatre’s production of “The Rocky Horror Show,” brought along director Steven Biter, and the two discussed this year’s production of Rocky Horror. We got inside this year’s show, identified the cast members, and discussed some of the changes for this year’s production, which takes place Oct. 21st, 22nd, 27th, 28th and 29th at 8 PM, plus special midnight showings on the 22nd and 29th at the Cresson Lake Playhouse. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door; reservations can be made by calling (814) 472-4333.

In lieu of Rocky Horror music (since no recordings of Rocky music done by John Charney and his stage band are available yet), we featured various songs from John Charney’s band projects, White Mojo and Wine Of Nails – including a 20-minute “desert medley” to end the show, featuring Wine Of Nails’ lengthy desert-flavored instrumental “John Wayne Ethic,” followed by The Nightcrawlers’ similarly-styled “Desert Sun.” Some listeners were probably dying for water at the end of that segment! We also debuted new tunes from Denise Baldwin, Darcie Miner and Sodajerk. And we updated Local Music News. Needless to say, a very interesting two hours!

Here is this week’s playlist:

HOUR ONE:

POPTART MONKEYS – “7:30”
JOHN CHARNEY & WHITE MOJO – “Evil”
DENISE BALDWIN – “Standing In The Rain”
JOHN CHARNEY & WHITE MOJO – “521 Back Door Man”
VS. THE EARTH – “Friend Zone”
WINE OF NAILS – “Buddy”

HOUR TWO:

FAYTED – “Too Late”
JOHN CHARNEY & WHITE MOJO – “Got My Mojo Workin’”
DARCIE MINER – “Fly”
SODAJERK – “Getaway Car”
WINE OF NAILS – “John Wayne Ethic”
THE NIGHTCRAWLERS – “Desert Sun”

Next Sunday night, with no guests scheduled to join us, we will get caught up on new music that has arrived over the past several weeks. We’ll again check on Local Music News, and review Cloud Party’s new CD, “Praying For Rain,” on “The Professor’s CD Corner!” Maximum local and regional music next Sunday night on the “Backyard Rocker!”

In Local Music News…

A change behind the drum kit for one of this region’s favorite bands. Shawn Hocherl has announced that he is stepping away from the band Vs. The Earth. The parting is on friendly terms, and Shawn has agreed to stay with the band until his replacement is found.

Lost Ledny is also seeking a new drummer, as Jason Kirchner is leaving the group to return full time to Johnstown rockers Pivot. Any drummers interested in the Lost Ledny position can find out more by going to the group’s website, www.lostledny.com.

A new showcase for bands and artists who do their own original music is taking shape in the local area. The “One Voice Musical Showcase” will take place once a month at one of several select area venues, and showcase different area bands each month. The inaugural showcase will take place on Saturday night, Nov. 5, at “The Dungeon” at The Castle Pub in Ebensburg, and will feature the bands House Of Cain, Killjingle, One Gun Salute and Inversion. The show will begin at 9 PM. Admission will be $5 at the door, with proceeds benefiting the Altoona Food Bank.

And Q94, Pennsylvania Musician Magazine and City Limits are teaming up again this year to provide an evening of local music fun and enjoyment to help out the U.S. Marine Corps’ Toys for Tots program. The third annual Toys for Tots Benefit Concert will take place at City Limits in Altoona on Saturday evening, November 12, starting at 8:30 PM, and will feature performances from Blind Jonny Death, Gin & Juice, The Nightcrawlers, Hexhed (featuring four former members of Saucemonster) and Hair Force One. Donation at the door will be either a $7 cash donation, or a new, unopened toy of equal or greater value. Members of the U.S. Marine Corps will be on hand, and all proceeds and toys will go to Toys for Tots, to benefit needy area children and families.
