Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the October 23 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBRX 94.3 and WBXQ 94.7.

With no scheduled guests this week, we took the opportunity to get caught up on new local/regional releases that arrived within the past few weeks. We debuted a number of new tunes from Bill Ferrell, Blind Jonny Death, Grade E, Rik Golden, Poptart Monkeys, John Denver Flight School, Instant Tranzmission, Icarus Witch and Flord. We dug into the regional music archives and flashed back to 1985 for a tune from Teeze on our “Local Music Flashback” feature. We updated Local Music News, and reviewed Cloud Party’s new album, “Praying for Rain,” in “The Professor’s CD Corner.” (The review can be read on Q94’s website, www.wbxq.com.)

Here is this week’s playlist:

In Local Music News…

Catch the area band Sidestep on stage while you still have the chance. Sidestep has announced that they will be stepping away from area stages to pursue other projects before the end of the year. In one of the projects, singer/guitarist John Stevens and bassist Tim Kelly are launching a new band called .00 Buck, described as “hard-hitting honky-tonk Americana;” they will be hitting area stages soon.

Four former members of popular Altoona-based hard-hitters Saucemonster are getting back together in a new band project called Hexhed. According to their band page on Rockpage.net, singer/guitarist Steve “Dig” Danfelt, lead guitarist Chris Silva, bassist Greg Hatch and drummer Rob Bonsell are reuniting to “finally destroy what hearing (they) didn't lose the first time around.” Hexhed will make their official debut at City Limits in Altoona on Nov. 5, and will return to that venue a week later as part of the annual Toys for Tots Benefit Concert sponsored by City Limits, Pennsylvania Musician Magazine and Q94.

Following their recent drummer change, which saw Kevin Siegel leaving the band and Kyle Kovach taking over behind the kit, local jam rock favorites Gin & Juice have decided to change their name as well. The group’s new monicker is Plasma.

Dubois heavy rockers Sever are again in search of a new bass player, following the departure of Matt Craig from the band due to creative differences. Sever has canceled all of their shows while they create new music and seek the missing pieces to their band puzzle. On the group’s website, 2sever.com, the group told fans to expect a present near Christmas time.
