Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the January 29 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBRX 94.3 and WBXQ 94.7.

Thanks to our guest this week, Well Of Souls frontman Paul Reddon, for stopping by and filling us in on his new band project. Paul discussed Well Of Souls (www.wellofsoulslive.com) and their plans for a CD and live performances later this year. We also heard tracks from Well Of Souls’ forthcoming album, as well as Paul’s thoughts on the tunes.

We also updated Local Music News, and reviewed Flord’s second album, The Next Level, in “The Professor’s CD Corner.” (The review can be viewed in the "Backyard Rocker" section of the message board on Q94's website, www.wbxq.com. We also debuted new tunes from Rob Carlton, Joe Craig and Sherri Mullen.

Here is this week’s playlist:

HOUR ONE:

THE FLAME SKY – “Only In Your Head”
FLIGHT 19 – “Migraine”
WELL OF SOULS – “Get Your Monkey Back”
ROB CARLTON – “A Time Such As This”
WELL OF SOULS – “Burnin’ Down”
FAYTED – “Too Late”
WELL OF SOULS – “Gasoline”

JOE CRAIG – “Erased”
SHERRI MULLEN – “Modern Day Loving Family”

HOUR TWO:

COINMONSTER – “Low Profile Car”
WIDE OPEN – “Eat My Dust”
WELL OF SOULS – “Give It To Me”
FLORD – “Outside”
WELL OF SOULS – “Little Sister”
POPTART MONKEYS – “After Party”
WELL OF SOULS – “Stand Tall”
VS. THE EARTH – “Psycho”
WELL OF SOULS – “Move Over Baby”

Next Sunday night, we know what we’re competing against in the sporting world. But if you’re not a football fan, or if the Steelers lay a good whupping on the Seahawks early and the game gets boring, or if you get tired of hearing the game announcers’ drivel, turn down the television sound and turn up the “Backyard Rocker” for our annual “Super Bowl Widow’s Special!” In a change from past years, we gave the Q94 Calendar Girls the night off so they could cheer on the Steelers; instead, we will spend two hours spotlighting the women of the area music scene! From Gypsy to Darcie Miner, from Trace Moran to Lzzy Hale, from Denise Baldwin to Rachel Allen to Sherri Mullen to Sherry Lender and more, we will hear tunes from the talented ladies of the local and regional music scene, including some talented female instrumentalists as well! The ladies are in the spotlight on the “Super Bowl Widow’s Special,” next Sunday night on the “Backyard Rocker!”

Forthcoming guests and specials include:

FEB. 12 – Spoonchatter
FEB. 19 – Justin Mackovyak
FEB. 26 – Michael Reich
MAR. 5 – Felix & the Hurricanes (8th Anniversary Special)
MAR. 12 – Acoustic Jam Special 5
MAR. 19 – Icarus Witch

In Local Music News…

Although several farewell shows had been staged previously to bid farewell to Peter C’s in Altoona, a delay in the transfer of the liquor license between owners allowed the venue to remain open for a little while longer. This past Thursday night, though, the absolute final show at Peter C’s took place before construction crews began renovating the building for the new owners on Friday morning. The 3rd annual Rockpage Benefit Jam closed the book on Peter C’s, and raised $120 for the Erin McConnell Fund. The night saw performances from the bands The Vengeance Of Carl Lee, One Gun Salute and The Flame Sky, plus a number of Rockpage member musicians getting together for a jam session to close out the night. On behalf of the area music community, thanks to John and Jodie Kenawell for providing the stage to allow a number of area bands over the years to get their start, and for their support of the area music scene. Peter C’s will be missed.

Halestorm has landed a slot on the 2006 Winterfresh Sno-Core Tour. The tour, which runs through March 2, features Halestorm sharing the stage with the bands Flyleaf, Seether and Shinedown. The tour is in Little Rock, Arkansas, tonight at the Clear Channel Metroplex. The tour will pass through Philadelphia on February 24, when it visits the Electric Factory.

Grim news for Grimm fans. Guitarist Scott Botteicher has parted ways with The Grimm, citing personal reasons. According to bassist Kent Tonkin, the three remaining members of the Grimm will be deciding on the band’s future plans shortly.

After a while searching for a permanent drummer, former “Backyard Rocker” guests Milkshake Jones from Harrisburg have found their man for behind the kit, Todd Reid. According to the group’s website, Milkshake Jones plans to return to full-time gigging now that their drum position is stabilized.
