Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the February 26 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBRX 94.3 and WBXQ 94.7.

Thanks to our guest, Somerset County singer, songwriter and guitarist Michael Reich (www.michael-reich.com), for his supercharged appearance on this week’s program. Michael wasn’t fired up just because the Steelers had won the Super Bowl (the Steelers are a common theme whenever Michael is on the show); he was excited about his forthcoming new album, Writing On The Wall, which is currently being manufactured and should be released in late March or early April. Mike told us about the album, which was recorded in Toronto and produced by Mark Berry (whose production/mixing/engineering resume includes David Bowie, Duran Duran, Kool & the Gang, Yes, I Mother Earth, Burton Cummings and more). We heard numerous tracks from the album, and several lucky listeners got to win a copy before it is even available! We also attempted to speak with Mark Berry via phone, but technical problems cut the conversation short. Thanks to Mark for being available!

We also reviewed Rik Golden’s self-titled album in “The Professor’s CD Corner” (the review can be viewed on Q94’s website, www.wbxq.com, in the “Backyard Rocker” section on the message board page); and we debuted new tunes from Dave Blackledge, 4 Days Dirty and Too Many Empty.

Here is this week’s playlist:

HOUR ONE:

RHYNE McCORMICK – “Girl Turned”
INFUSED – “Within”
MICHAEL REICH – “Turning On A Dime”
DAVE BLACKLEDGE – “She’s Not Bad for an Old Bar Hag”
MICHAEL REICH – “Living Day to Day”
STEVE SUMMERHILL – “Overnight Express”
MICHAEL REICH – “Live for Today”
FELIX & THE HURRICANES – “Little Ears”
4 DAYS DIRTY – “Killbox”

HOUR TWO:

HALESTORM – “I Bleed”
MICHAEL REICH – “Spin”
RIK GOLDEN – “Something Else (in Mind)”
MICHAEL REICH – “Wireless”
TOO MANY EMPTY – “Awake”
MICHAEL REICH – “Before I Let It Go”
TONY MOLLICK PROJECT – “Make It Right”
MICHAEL REICH – “Heart Of Gold”

Next Sunday night, it’s PARTY TIME! The “Backyard Rocker” celebrates eight years on the airwaves with a 3-hour anniversary special! We’ll feature highlights from the past year on the program, and we will also welcome back on the program the very first band guests we had on the “Backyard Rocker” back in 1998, Felix & the Hurricanes! We’ll get caught up on what’s new with the Hurricanes, and hear tunes from them, including some new tunes performed live on the air! And don’t be surprised if the Hurricanes bring a few musical friends along for the ride! The 3-hour “Backyard Rocker” 8th Anniversary Special begins at a special start time, 7 PM, this Sunday night!

Forthcoming guests and specials include:

MAR. 12 – Acoustic Jam Special 5
MAR. 19 – 4 Days Dirty
MAR. 26 – Grade E
APR. 2 – Ledbetter Heights
APR. 9 – Zelazowa
APR. 16 – Ken Gray
APR. 23 – Silver Sunday

The “Backyard Rocker” is happy to announce its continued partnership with “The Underground TV,” the new local/regional music television show airing on WWCP-TV Fox 8 Saturday evenings at 6 PM, and now early Monday mornings at 1 AM on WATM ABC 23. Check out “The Underground” as it features different unsigned local and regional bands every week; and watch for “Backyard Rocker” updates on the show each week as well!

For regular updates on what is happening on the area music scene, pay a visit to Rockpage (www.rockpage.net). Rockpage features band links, a message board, "Backyard Rocker" updates, the online 'zine publication "The Final Cut," and other local music scene information.

Bands and artists interested in having music aired on "The Backyard Rocker" are invited to send their broadcast-quality recordings to: WBXQ Radio, 4000 5th Avenue, Altoona, PA 16602; ATTN: Jim Price. Or drop the recordings off at the station during regular business hours, Monday-Friday 9 AM - 5 PM.

Q94’s “Backyard Rocker” has been introducing listeners to the region’s best musical talent for over seven years, and we plan to do it for many more. Help guarantee the program’s future, and consider becoming an advertising sponsor of the “Backyard Rocker.” If your business involves music, a “Backyard Rocker” sponsorship can get your message in front of listeners interested in music. To inquire about becoming a sponsor of the “Backyard Rocker,” call Diane Boslet during regular business hours at (814) 944-9320, or email diane@wbxq.com.
