Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the April 23 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBRX 94.3 and WBXQ 94.7.

Thanks to guests bearing edible gifts, Silver Sunday (www.silversunday.com), for hooking me up with the bubblegum-flavored lollipop, as well as two fun hours! Off the bat, Silver Sunday introduced their newest member, bassist Mike Stanley (replacing Steve Seymore, leaving the band for family reasons). We then got inside Silver Sunday’s story to date, and heard several new songs the group recently recorded. The group also brought a guitar and performed a brand new song just debuted on stage this past weekend. We like those “Backyard Rocker” exclusives!

We also spoke with Dennie Huber, the organizer and host for the 16th annual “Crazy Fest” Amateur Youth Talent Show, which takes place next Sunday, April 30, at the Greenwood Firehall near Altoona. “Crazy Fest” is a talent showcase and competition for talented youngsters ages 21 and under, who perform and compete for awards, trophies, plaques, and a moment in the limelight in front of a friendly, supportive audience. Entrants can still register for this year’s “Crazy Fest” by calling Dennie Huber at (814) 942-2516.

In addition, we updated Local Music News, and we debuted new tunes from Fosterchild and The Science Fiction Idols.

Here is this week’s playlist:

FAYTED – “Keep Smilin’”
NITEKAST – “Humidity”
SILVER SUNDAY – “History Repeats”

SILVER SUNDAY – “I Know”
THE SCIENCE FICTION IDOLS – “I Want You to Lie”

Next Sunday night, we welcome long-distance travelers from New Jersey on the show, as Blue Number Nine comes to visit! Performers at last year’s Westsylvania Heritage & Arts Festival at Penn State Altoona and the Blair County Arts Foundation’s “Summer Sounds Of Jazz” concert series, Blue Number Nine will acquaint us with their musical world, and we’ll hear tracks from their latest CD, Living It Up In The New World. Plus, the group will be bringing instruments and playing a few songs live on the air! Blue Number Nine visits the “Backyard Rocker,” next Sunday night!

In Local Music News…

A name change for Backstreet Law…Effective May 31, Backstreet Law will be changing their name to Til December, the name of a song from their latest album, Frustrated. According to the band’s website, the group cites copyright and trade issues arising with their current name, plus their changing musical direction with new drummer Mike Cavalier. The group assures its fans that they will continue to do the favorite songs they established under the Backstreet Law name. The group’s first show as Til December will be on May 31st at the Nokia Theater in New York City with Staind on the Jagermeister Music Tour.

Another band making some changes will be Third Standard. The group has announced that singer Tyson Ruhlman will be stepping away from the group at the end of May, to become a dad in July and to begin graduate school in the fall. The group is seeking a new singer, and plans to change the name of the band as well. Any interested singers can inquire through the group’s website, www.thirdstandard.com.

Next Friday night, one of the region’s longest-running bands celebrates their milestone 1,000th show. Roadkill will take the stage for the official thousandth time at a gala event starting at 8 PM at the Days Inn in Clearfield. The show will also feature performances from the bands Hollow Bodies, Kung Fu Grip, 4 Ever Means Goodbye, 4 Days Dirty, Not Without Resistance and At Hopes End. Roadkill will be filming for their upcoming DVD release during the show.

And a benefit show has been announced for next Sunday evening at Aldo’s in Juniata. The Meeka Starr Benefit will raise money to help out Trust Factor member David Yeager and Cindy Doughty for the funeral costs for young Meeka Starr Yeager, who passed away suddenly last weekend. The show will begin at 8 PM, and will feature performances from the bands Choking Faith, Fed Up, Atomic Blonde and more. Donation at the door will be $5.
