Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the January 25 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBRX 94.3 and WBXQ 94.7.

Thanks to our guests, young Altoona foursome Destroy Elroy, for braving the ominous weather forecast and being our guests in the studio. The snow began shortly into the show, and the band members updated us on snow depth outside the Q94 offices. In return, we updated them on school delays and cancellations, as drummer Jeremy and bassist Sam waited on baited breath for word on Altoona Area calling off classes (they eventually phoned in a 2-hour delay, after the show ended). Outside of providing weather information and school delays, we also featured lots of music, including tunes from Destroy Elroy’s self-titled debut EP, and soon-to-be-released second CD. And we learned about Destroy Elroy, as the band members shared their thoughts on the band, their music, juggling music and school, and more. We also heard new tunes from Negative Space, Doug Mackie’s Doctor’s Office, Infused, Spitshine and Suicide Switch.

This week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

THIRD STANDARD – “Rabbit Run”
NEVERMOURE (VS. THE EARTH) – “Forever Yours”
DESTROY ELROY – “Where It Ends”
NEGATIVE SPACE – “Best Kept Secret”
DESTROY ELROY – “The Song That Never Was”
BLEECH – “Spell”
DESTROY ELROY – “Too Good to be True”
NO DICE – “Delorean”
DESTROY ELROY – “Memories (Charlie’s Song)”
DOUG MACKIE’S DOCTOR’S OFFICE – “Less Affected”
INFUSED – “Defused”

HOUR TWO:

VERTIGO – “Doormat”
SPITSHINE – “I-H8-U”
DESTROY ELROY – “Uncertainty”
BREAKING BENJAMIN – “Polyamorous”
DESTROY ELROY – “Boulevard of Broken Dreams”
THE MAD COWS – “Rossiter, PA”
DESTROY ELROY – “Never Turn Away”
SUICIDE SWITCH – “In The Wake”
CHAPTER 5 – “Normal Life”

If everything goes according to plan, the Q94 2004 Calendar Girls will host the “Backyard Rocker” this Sunday for the annual Super Bowl Widow’s Special. I’ll be off watching the game somewhere, and leaving the show in the hands of the ladies, who will spin tunes from their favorite area bands and artists. You might be surprised to hear what bands these ladies are into! Check out the “Backyard Rocker” Super Bowl Widow’s Special with the 2004 Calendar Girls, this Sunday night!

IN LOCAL MUSIC NEWS THIS WEEK:

After two months of auditions and rehearsals, Spinebelt has officially announced their new band line-up, to be unveiled live onstage next month. Joining remaining original members, lead vocalist/guitarist Butch Lloyd and drummer John K., will be former Odium bassist P.J. Kissinger; and two former members of Ninetail, guitarist Chris Evan and keyboardist/guitarist Don Belsh. The band will be performing regionally throughout the winter and spring, before embarking on their first tour of the U.S. East Coast this summer.

Local singer and songwriter Mandy Coover has signed with a regional indie record label. Mandy, now professionally going by the name Amanda Coover, has signed with State College-based indie label PeSt Records. Amanda will be recording with the label, which is concentrating on helping aspiring artists in the Penn State community.

After 2½ years of entertaining audiences throughout the Northeast, including here in westcentral PA, the eastern PA-based band He Said She Said played their final show on Jan. 17, before disbanding so the various band members could pursue other projects. Former He Said She Said guitarist Tom Sweeney is now a member of the band PopShop.

And after nearly two years entertaining on area stages, the Clearfield-based trio Bleech is disbanding. The band members are going their separate ways after the departure of guitarist Mike Harper.
