Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the September 3 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBRX 94.3 and WBXQ 94.7. The “Backyard Rocker” is brought to you by the U.S. Army. Visit their website, www.goarmy.com, and call the Altoona Recruiting Station at (814) 944-2592.

Since it was Labor Day weekend, we had no guests on the program this week. We instead got caught up on new releases that arrived at “Backyard Rocker” headquarters in recent weeks. We debuted new tunes from Billy Price, Bill Ferrell, Skyla Burrell Blues Band, Herbie, Good For Nothing, Ted McCloskey, Myzewell and Condemned Existence. We also updated Local Music News, and reviewed Michael Reich’s new CD, Writing On The Wall, in “The Professor’s CD Corner.” (The review can be viewed in the “Backyard Rocker” section of the message board area on Q94’s website, www.wbxq.com.)

Here is this week’s playlist:

HOUR ONE:

RACHEL ALLEN – “Almost There/Good Shepherd”
BILLY PRICE – “Soul Sailin’”
BILL FERRELL – “Spinnin’ My Wheels”
DAVE BLACKLEDGE – “Your Butt’s Too Fat to Dance Like That”
CONDITION K – “On A Sunday”
KAIROS – “Shine”
SKYLA BURRELL BLUES BAND – “Rockin’ In Memphis”
FAT VINNY & THE WISEGUYS – “Bad Men On The Run”
HERBIE – “Cycles”
GRADE E – “Mined”
GOOD FOR NOTHING – “Swimsuit Calendar”

HOUR TWO:

THE NIGHTCRAWLERS – “Black Hole”
TED McCLOSKEY – “Enough to Make the Angels Weep”
THE FLAME SKY – “B-Minor”
MICHAEL REICH – “Spin”
MYZEWELL – “My Mistake”
THE ILLUMINATI – “Picture”
CONDEMNED EXISTENCE – “Murder Doctrine”
THE GRIMM – “Angry and Shirtless”

Next Sunday night, again we have no guests scheduled, so we will again be getting caught up on new CD’s that have been arriving at “Backyard Rocker” headquarters in recent weeks. We’ll also update Local Music News, and possibly review another new local/regional CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner.” It will be more maximum local and regional music on the “Backyard Rocker,” next Sunday night!

Forthcoming guests and specials include:

SEPT. 17 – Jackson Monsour
SEPT. 24 – Rusty Gun Revival
OCT. 8 – Acoustic Jam Special 6
OCT. 15 – Blues and Roots Special
OCT. 29 – Halloween Special/Underground Television Season Kickoff Special
NOV. 19 – Good For Nothing
DEC. 24 – Christmas Special
DEC. 31 – 2006 Year In Review Special

The “Backyard Rocker” is happy to announce its continued partnership with “The Underground TV,” the new local/regional music television show airing on WWCP-TV Fox 8 Saturday evenings at 6 PM, and now early Monday mornings at 1 AM on WATM ABC 23. Check out “The Underground” as it features different unsigned local and regional bands every week; and watch for “Backyard Rocker” updates on the show each week as well!

For regular updates on what is happening on the area music scene, pay a visit to Rockpage (www.rockpage.net). Rockpage features band links, a message board, "Backyard Rocker" updates, the online 'zine publication "The Final Cut," and other local music scene information.

Bands and artists interested in having music aired on "The Backyard Rocker" are invited to send their broadcast-quality recordings to: WBXQ Radio, 1417 12th Avenue, Altoona, PA 16601; ATTN: Jim Price. Or drop the recordings off at the station during regular business hours, Monday-Friday 9 AM - 5 PM.

Q94’s “Backyard Rocker” has been introducing listeners to the region’s best musical talent for over eight years, and we plan to do it for many more. Help guarantee the program’s future, and consider becoming an advertising sponsor of the “Backyard Rocker.” If your business involves music, a “Backyard Rocker” sponsorship can get your message in front of listeners interested in music. To inquire about becoming a sponsor of the “Backyard Rocker,” call Diane Boslet during regular business hours at (814) 944-9320, or email diane@wbxq.com.

In Local Music News…

Immediately following the Bob Dylan show at State College’s Medlar Field this past Sunday night, there was a very special benefit at the Phyrst in downtown State College. Shelter from the Storm, an all-star local band comprised of members of The Nightcrawlers, The Rustlanders, Ted McCloskey and the Hi-Fis, Maxwell Strait, Natalie Berrena, Dennis Fallon, Scott Mangene and many more did an entire night of Dylan songs; to raise money for the New Orleans Musicians Hurricane Relief Fund, providing much needed support to the musicians who embody the city that was so tragically torn apart a year ago by Hurricane Katrina.

What is going on with area 80’s hair-band rockers Hair Force One? Visitors to the group’s website this past week were greeted with a picture of a tombstone with the Hair Force One logo marked on it. The group has experienced some recent personnel moves. More on this story as it develops.

Former State College-turned-Pittsburgh progressive rockers Kairos have a new rhythm section, after drummer Drew Rodaniche and bassist Shar Sturm departed the band to pursue other career paths. Returning to play bass is Kairos’ original bass player, Dominic Misja, while Scranton transplant Jason Macheska takes over drum duties. The updated Kairos line-up plans to return to live stages shortly.
