Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the July 1 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBRX 94.3 and WBXQ 94.7. The show is brought to you by The Altoona Curve (www.altoonacurve.com), “Everybody’s Hometown Team!”

Again with no guests scheduled for this week, we spent the program checking out more new music that has arrived at “Backyard Rocker” headquarters during the past few weeks. We debuted new tunes from The Brothers Kelly, Jackie Kopco, Until We Rise, Turning Point, Theodozia, Gunnar Wray and Bushmaster. We also updated Local Music News.

Here is this week’s playlist:

HOUR ONE:

PETE PALLADINO – “4th of July”
ROADKILL – “Fifth on the Fourth of July”
THE BROTHERS KELLY – “Summer Daze”
JACKIE KOPCO – “Far From Here”
UNTIL WE RISE – “The Way You Like It”
WAY DOWN EAST – “Magnum is My Name”
TURNING POINT – “Dirty Money”
MY TURNING POINT – “Found My Way”

STEEL – “Tornado Alley”
STRONGHOLD – “Cyclone”
THEODOZIA – “Someone”
THE APRIL SKIES – “My Love Is in This House”

FAYTED – “Crystal Creature”
4 DAYS DIRTY – “Blindside”
THE ALLUMINATI – “Fading”
BUSHMASTER – “Glass House Dweller”
TONY MOLLICK PROJECT – “Likely Story”

Once again, we have no guests scheduled for next Sunday, so we will again be providing maximum local and regional music on the program. We’ll also review a new local/regional CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner,” and may have a few other surprises in store as well. Again, maximum local and regional music on the “Backyard Rocker,” next Sunday night!

Forthcoming guests and specials include:

JULY 15 – The Scraps
JULY 22 – My Turning Point

The "Backyard Rocker" is happy to announce its continued partnership with "The Underground TV," the local/regional music television show airing on WWPC Fox 8 Sunday and Monday mornings at 1 AM. Check out "The Underground" as it features different unsigned local and regional bands every week; and watch for "Backyard Rocker" updates on the show each week as well!

For regular updates on what is happening on the area music scene, pay a visit to Rockpage (www.rockpage.net). Rockpage features band links, a message board, "Backyard Rocker" updates, the online 'zine publication "The Final Cut," and other local music scene information.

In Local Music News…

The Altoona City Council this past week passed a noise ordinance. The ordinance will allow businesses to have music outside unless there are major complaints from residents. In the past, businesses had to go through the liquor control board with outdoor music requests. This noise ordinance puts the issue in the hands of the city and actually cuts some red tape. City codes officers will handle complaints during the day, city police will take over at night. City council sees this as a tool to help promote growth in the struggling downtown area. The ordinance would also protect some of the outdoor concert events that are taking place in downtown Altoona this summer.

Vs. the Earth is close to completion of their new CD. The forthcoming disc will be called The Initiative, and the group is expecting to release the disc to Altoona area fans during their next visit to Altoona’s 4D’s Lounge on Friday, July 13.

Pittsburgh classic metal rockers Icarus Witch are gearing up to release their brand new album. The album will be called Songs for the Lost, and will be issued through Los Angeles-based Cleopatra Records on September 11. A famous guest will appear on the album, as former Rainbow and Yngwie Malmsteen frontman Joe Lynn Turner will sing along with the band on an update of Def Leppard’s “Mirror Mirror.”

Some band personnel moves to pass along…Emily’s Toybox has a new bass player, as former Scream drummer and Pipedown bassist Greg Reigle replaces Matt Kyle in the line-up.

And local classic rockers The Red Arrow have a new bass player as well, as former Half Tempted bassist “Big” Jim Ricotta replaces Larry Smelley, who departed the group to pursue other interests.
