Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the July 8 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBRX 94.3 and WBXQ 94.7. The show is brought to you by The Altoona Curve (www.altoonacurve.com), “Everybody’s Hometown Team!”

We didn't have any in-studio guests again this week, but we nonetheless had a busy show! We aired portions of an interview done in May with local 80's hair band favorites Hair Force One (www.hf1rocks.com). Done and recorded to provide the basis for the group's front cover story in the June issue of Pennsylvania Musician magazine, this interview took on a life of its own as the band members cut loose and lived up to their 80's "Decade of Decadence" persona! Hopefully listeners had as much fun hearing this interview as we had doing it!

We also updated Local Music News, and reviewed The April Skies' new CD, How It All Played Out, in "The Professor's CD Corner." (The review can be viewed in the "Backyard Rocker" section of the Message Board area on Q94's website, www.wbxq.com.) And we debuted new tunes from Phipps & Phriends, Justin Mack, Real Be Easys, The Scraps, Chapter 5 and Signal Lost.

Here is this week’s playlist:

HOUR ONE:

RUSTY GUN REVIVAL – “Smoke”
KYX – “Spinnin’ My Wheels”
RISE PHOENIX RISE – “Boxing Josh”
KEYSTONE – “Runway Queen”
PHIPPS & PHRIENDS – “Hemphield”
ROADKILL – “Lost in the Woods”
JUSTIN MACK – “Killing November”

HOUR TWO:

HALESTORM – “The Hand” (live)
REAL BE EASYS – “Pop Bottles”
THE APRIL SKIES – “Shots”
THE SCRAPS – “Wasted”
JOHN CHARNEY – “American Swine”
CHAPTER 5 – “Compromise”
CHOKING FAITH – “Wait!”
SIGNAL LOST – “Hideaway”

This coming Sunday, we welcome guests back on the program, when Hollidaysburg-based punk rockers The Scraps join us! We'll meet the band members and get their story to date, plus hear tracks from their new CD, Therapy for Retards. The Scraps visit the “Backyard Rocker,” next Sunday night!

Forthcoming guests and specials include:

JULY 22 – My Turning Point
JULY 29 – Last Chance
AUG. 5 – Cover Song Special
AUG. 12 – Jackson Monsour
AUG. 26 – Ron Carnevali (Johnstown Folkfest preview)

In Local Music News…

The annual “End Of Summer Jam” benefit concert has run into a potential problem. According to concert organizer Mickey Luckenbaugh, the Cresson Sportsmen’s Club has indicated that they are having doubts about hosting this year’s event. Entering its 17th year, the “End Of Summer Jam” benefit usually features two days of live area bands, plus overnight camping, with proceeds going to Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. According to Mickey, the concert and its future will be discussed at the next Cresson Sportsmen’s Club monthly meeting, scheduled for Tuesday evening, July 17 at 7 PM at the Sportsmen’s Club.

The dates for the 12th annual Millennium Music Conference have been announced. The event will take place from February 14 through 17 of next year at the Radisson Penn Harris Hotel & Convention Center in Camp Hill outside of Harrisburg. The conference will feature 3 days of music business keynotes, panels, clinics, workshops, mentoring and a trade show, plus four nights ights of showcasing bands and artists at 30 venues in the Harrisburg area. The deadline for performers to submit applications to showcase at Millennium will be November 16. For more information about the conference, visit the website www.mmc12.com.

In band personnel news, the Altoona-based classic rock band Square One has a new bass player, as Bill Smith has replaced Bill Hunter in the line-up. Square One performed at this past Wednesday’s 4th of July celebration at Altoona’s Lakemont Park.

Bassist Joey G has announced that he is leaving the Harrisburg-based party band Stomp’d, citing personal reasons.

While on the topic of Stomp’d, congratulations to Stomp’d lead singer Amy Jo Hurricane and guitarist Willy G, the proud parents of a baby girl; Savannah Sky Hurricane was born this past 4th of July Wednesday morning.

Roadkill is stepping away from area stages for the rest of the summer, to complete work on their next CD. The group plans to release the disc in September, and will be returning to action on area stages then.
