Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the September 26 edition of "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Q94 Classic Rock!

We again welcomed guests on this week's program, as Nick and Stefanie Austen - known as Harrisburg-based duo The Austens (www.theaustensmusic.com) - joined us via phone! We learned the couple's musical story, plus aired songs they recorded exclusively for this week's program! In addition, we debuted new songs Ted McCloskey, Joey Dalto and Mycenea Worley and updated "Local Music News." And as we reported the passing of longtime musician John Homerski during "Local Music News," we honored his memory with two "Local Music Flashback" tributes - featuring a 2004 cover song by John's group Homer's Army during the first hour, and a 1980 cover song from John's band Fantasy Airlift - recorded live during a show at the Country Pub in Patton - during the second hour. (For those who missed the program, a four-part podcast of this show is available for listening or download from Q94's website, www.q94classicrock.com. Click on "The Professor's Classroom," and then scroll down to "Homegrown Rocker Podcast" and look for the four show segments marked with the date, 092621.)

Here is this week's playlist:

THE AUSTENS - "That Song"
THE EVERGREENS - "Take Heart"
JOEY DALTO - "All For You"
THE ROOF - "We Sure Did"

HOUR TWO:

THE JADED LIPS - "Where Do We Run"
WE CAME FROM SPACE - "Easily Led"
THE AUSTENS - "Newspaper Beauty Queen"
NORMAN NARDINI - "Ole Number 21"
THE AUSTENS - "Danger Ahead"

THE AUSTENS - "Look to See"
PURE CANE SUGAR - "My Favorite Song"
MYCENEA WORLEY - "Sleepwalking"

For our next show, we'll again do a grand tour of the mailboxes to explore new area recordings that have arrived in recent weeks! Hear new songs from Black Ridge, Bill Dann & Jack Servello, Don't Panic, Alec Henderson, Abstentious and more! In addition, we will update "Local Music News," dig into the archive for a "Local Music Flashback," step "Across State Lines" to hear a new tune by an out-of-state independent band or artist, and review Dilemma's "Open Mind Closed Mouth" album in "The Professor's CD Corner!" Hear the "Homegrown Rocker" this Sunday night (October 3) on Q94 Classic Rock - 94.3 FM and online at www.q94classicrock.com!

In Local Music News...

Bradford-based rock band Marshmellow Overcoat has announced that their new CD, called Ghost in the Doorway, has been completed and will be officially released on October 29. The album's title track will be released a week before the rest of the album.

Pittsburgh's Sourmash recently won the Entertainer of the Year Award at the 7th annual Josie Music Awards (JMA's) in Tennessee. The group was nominated in five of the rock categories this year. First presented in 2015, the Josie Music Awards is the largest independent artist award show globally, and is presented annually in the Nashville area.

The area music scene is mourning the loss of another friend and member, after John Homerski passed away last Sunday (Sept. 19) after battling an illness. John was 69. John had been making music on area stages for nearly five decades, playing drums and singing. He had been a part of numerous bands through the years, including such notable names as Fantasy Airlift in the late 1970s/early 1980s, Homer's Army, and for the past several years, Johnstown's Flood City Brass. He also was a graduate of the U.S. Armed Forces School of Music and a 9-year veteran of the U.S. Army Bands.

That's a look at “Local Music News.” Bands and artists with news items to report on the program may email their information to homegrownrocker@gmail.com.
