I dont like a single band mentioned. Wow....I thought there would be one.
I do like SOME songs by Foo Fighters, but thats stretching it. Thats like a list of prob the worst bands on earth if one were to ask me. Ok, I wont go that far. Springsteen did some good stuff in the 80's I like. The bad outweighs the good so many times over on that list. Atleast I think.

Rush - Snakes and Arrows, which I didn't see on the list

The only one I own is the Against Me! "New Wave" cd.

While not up to Against Me! standards for a lot us fans...it's still better than any of the other stuff (at least that I've heard) on that list.

That's what ya get when MSN gets some indie know-it-all college asshole to make a top 10 album list.

Oh wait, that's why I won't read Rolling Stone, Spin, or Billboard magazines.

I also don't even know who majority of those artists are on that list. As Justin said, it seems to me the list was made by some pretentious indie snob. I am intrigued, though, by the Robert Plant and Allison Krause album, especially if it's produced by T-Bone Burnett. I like what I've heard of Amy Winehouse. The single I heard reminded me a lot of those old Motown recordings. I'd like Wilco if they could play their instruments. I hate that, "It's cool to not really know how to play," philosophy that some of these bands have. It's like how it was cool to be stupid in high school. Now, there are some things on the honorable mentioned list that I like.

In related news, I picked up Angels and Airwaves new album, I-Empire, yesterday, and I'm really digging it. It's a more poppy record than their first, but I think that it's a more solid effort. I think that it's a record that's going to take some repeated listens to really soak in. I like those types of records.

I haven't heard any of the albums listed; out of their top ten, the Robert Plant and Springsteen albums I might eventually hear.

Any group of reviewers, magazine folks, website folks, etc., is going to have their own slant on what is tops. I'm sure a survey of Rockpagers would come up with a totally different listing of what was tops over the past year. It's a matter of taste. I'll be doing my own listing in "JP's Corner" in a few weeks; and guess what? Most of the new albums I listened to and reviewed over the past year were local and regional albums, so I'll focus on albums released on the local/regional scene.

I bought a handful of national albums this past year, and received a few others through my day job. The best out of those, at least for me, was Rush's Snakes & Arrows. I'm currently listening to the latest album I bought, the Eagles' comeback double-CD, Long Road Out of Eden...review this afternoon at 3:45 on Q94 (shameless plug)!

First things first - I'm a huge Arcade Fire fan and make no apologies for it. But if "Neon Bible" was the best album of 2007... it was a crap year for music.

On the upside, at least the list was slanted towards bands that actually play their instruments. Music critics have been jerking off to hip hop for so long. (Admit it, JP. You have a mysteriously stained Jay Z record stashed away somewhere. )

Other good things about the list:

- Gogol Bordello on the honorable mention list. What a f'n fun band. Gypsy punk FTW!
- One of the hotter pictures I've seen of violin pixie Sarah Neufeld (in the middle, gold dress).

I listen to some mainstream music, and i have to say that I've never heard of most of these artists aside from Robert Plant and Springsteen. Of course, I listen to a lot of metal and modern rock so maybe thats why i'm not in the loop.

Amy Winehouse is the only one I like. lol She has a voice and style that goes back to the Motown soul feel, even to the blues/jazz Billie Holliday stuff. To me, that is a fresh breeze compared to the rest of the crappy female vocalists out there today.

I do have to say, as far as female vocalists, I like Christina Aguilera's Back to Basics Album. Not all of the tunes, but there are several good ones on there. She has talent that I would love to see her use in an all traditional jazz album.

I'm assuming anybody who agrees with that list never heard of Dark Tranquillity, Megadeth, Exodus, or Arch Enemy. I would even put the new Sage Francis in my top ten list.
