How to Build a USB Guitar

Post by Vette Lover »

Why would you want a USB port in an electric guitar?

Can anyone tell me if this would be a worthwhile project?

Give a man a fish and he will eat. But! Teach a man to fish and.... He'll sit in a boat and drink beer all day!

My opinion is that there'd be no need to put a USB port on a guitar. You can get Behringer USB interfaces for either guitar or line level for about $30 street, and they work pretty well (I have the line level version, and it works like a charm).
A step up from that would be something similar to a Line 6 Toneport or the Tapco Link.USB that I have. Those also include a microphone preamp, so they can be used for lots of things besides guitar, though they cost more.
I can't see any benefit for a USB guitar... you can use any regular guitar and guitar cable, and just put the USB interface next to the computer instead of on the guitar. Not to mention the downside of your guitar no longer being all-original stock.------->JMS
