Charlton Heston R.I.P.

Post by Jim Price »

Actor Charlton Heston passed away Saturday night at age 84. The story:

www.cnn.com/2008/SHOWBIZ/04/06/heston.dead/index.html

Besides Ben Hur and The Ten Commandments, I'll always most remember him for his role in the Planet of the Apes movies ("Take your hands off of me, you damned, dirty ape!") and in Soylent Green ("Soylent Green...is people!!").

I guess now you can have his guns? j/k (Couldn't resist)

Seriously, I think it's a great loss. I realize he wasn't making any movies for a long time, but the stuff I have watched that he did make was all nothing short of amazing.

He seemed like a well rounded individual.

Not to sound like a teenaged girl, but OMG!!!! That's the best one I've heard in ages. That's the kind of joke I love, irreverent and out of left-field, but relevant. I bet you hear that one on Leno or one of those shows...wait... The Daily Show. Perfect for The Daily Show.--->JMS

I had an opportunity to meet him several years ago. I have to admit, it was a bit intimidating to speak with him...all I kept picturing was him in a robe holding the ten commandments. Somehow, I think he knew that I had broken a few of them.

John C. Sigler and Wayne Lapierre.

Heston has had Alzheimers since like 2003 when he stepped down as pres. of the NRA.

He was a great breakthrough actor and a great man. Many will miss him. RIP

Planet of the Apes was the 2nd movie I remember going to see in a theatre (Fantastic Voyage with Raquel Welch was 1st). I'll never forget his momentus ending scene with the Statue of Liberty on the beach. Of course, I'll never forget Raquel's wetsuit either.

LaPierre's so conservative, he makes Heston look like Jane Fonda.("Feel lucky, punk? Now say the 'Under God' part, or I'll send you to Hell!") I think he'd argue the 2nd Amendment gives each of us the right to have an atomic bomb.
I'm being facetious. I'm a life-long gun owner myself, and a supporter of CCP's... but I don't think people should have 50-cals or bazooka's. That's just an overcompensation for a... physical shortcoming. --->JMS

The only .50 calibers I own are muzzleloaders.
But, You should be allowed to own any firearm you want.
A revolution will happen, or someone will start a war on our turf. Maybe not in my lifetime, but this government is getting out of control. When that happens, I'd rather not be armed with pappy's single shot .22 long rifle with open sights.

Gotcha. But you can't take down a man 3/4 of a mile away with a smokestick.
If there's a Red Dawn moment, my view lately is you could do more damage with an IED... you don't need to be there when it goes off. The Arabs have given us mathematics, hashish, and now they're the world's leading authority on guerilla warfare. That's quite a resume! --->JMS

LOL!!! No I've got a .22-250 that will. I'm just saying, if you wanna own an assault rifle you should be allowed. My flintlocks only good to about 100 yds.

I think it's because they make a really loud noise.

Drums don't kill people.....drummers do!
Yes, the end of Planet of the Apes is IMO the best movie ending of all time.
I just watched I Am Legend the other night, and well the movie is OK but if you're going to 're-make' a movie (obviously a re-make of Omega Man), then call it a re-make and don't pass it off as some other movie. Sort of like stealing a song melody, no?
RIP Charlie. (Seems mean what Michael Moore did to him now in Bowling for Columbine. The guy was too confused to defend himself properly)

why would you want to own an assault rifle? what about an machine gun, you want that too? for what purpose? are there any good arguments for any thing to be banned?
