Songs that raised the bar

Post by CCdrums »

You know, those songs that upped the ante and things were never the same after they were released. For example...

Good Vibrations - The Beach Boys
Stairway to Heaven - Led Zeppelin
Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen
More than a feeling - Boston
Rock Around the Clock- Bill Haley and the Comets

Can you think of some more?

Kiss- Rock and Roll All Nite (Not that I think it's a great song, but it got me and alot of other people into Kiss, which in turn got me into rock/metal.)

Skynyrd- Free Bird (Pretty much single-handedly made southern rock mainstream.)

"Hey Jude"–The Beatles
"A Day in the Life"–The Beatles
"Purple Haze"–Jimi Hendrix Experience
"Rumble"–Link Ray. Gets forgotten in the annals of music, but the psycho
jammed a screwdriver into his speaker cone to get distortion and changed
everything.

There are no lyrics but I'd say Eddie Van Halens' "Eruption" sure raised the bar on the way the guitar is played.

Johnny Be Good - Chuck Berry ?

Lauched a whole lot of guitar riffs. At the time, people were shocked.

Hair - The Cowsills

I don't know if it raised any bars, but it brought down some houses:

(I can't get no) Satisfaction - Rolling Stones

The flower girl by the Cowsills was my favorite song when I was in grade school. I had a crush on my older (13) neighbor girl and that song played in the summertime when I was watching her at the pool

"The Twist" Chubby Checker

Was that the beginning of the "dance" Tunes? Well, unless you want to go waaay back to "The Charleston". :P

"Great Balls of Fire" Jerry Lee Lewis

From footage I have seen, JLL going INSANE on Piano is right up there with Berry and his stage antics.

"Norwegian Wood" The Beatles

I believe that's the first Tune in which I heard a Sitar.
