These are the top basslines right here. Some may have been mentioned, but they're worth mentioning again.

Living Colour- Cult of Personality (kudos to Wimbish)
Robert Randololph and the Family Band- I need more love
RHCP- Coffee Shop (best Peppers song ever)
Liquid Tension- When the water breaks (best instrumental song ever)
Dream Theater- all of 'em! (esp. 6:00 and Dance of Eternity)
Van Halen- Right Now (one of the very few V.H. songs that aren't 'thump' 'thump' 'thump' 'thump')

Id rather not start on the solo/studio bassists- Adam Nitti (thanks Rob!), Michael Manring, Bill Dickens, Vic Wooten, Philip Bynoe, Stu Hamm, Billy Sheehan, Dave LaRue, Levin (there ya go Kent!), and the list is endless. Bassist25, Im sure you can triple that list!

...And I drew a blank. Lucky for you guys reading this...I was in a typing mood when I typed this and would've gone on forever if I wasn't brain dead. I just cant think of any more!

One of my favorites is Got The Life by Korn. Justin C. of Tool is my favorite famous bassist though.

The bass line in Cult of Personality is actually played by Muzz Skillings. Wimbish didn't arrive until the 3rd record

Muzz kicked some major behind in concert back in the day when he was still in Living Colour. Muzz and Will Callhoun were a deadly combination.

I have been humbled and ashamed. I knew not of a Muzz Skillings. I shall look him up and update my bassery.

To be honest, I never actually got into Living Colour. I didn't even know they had 3 or more albums. I always thought they were just a talented 'one-hit-wonder' because the only song I ever heard of theirs was CoP. Thanks a lot radio!

I can't believe no one mentioned John Myung from Dream Theater.
He is definitely one of the most underrated bass players of all time.
Here's a short list
Learning to Live/Metropolis/ Dream Theater
YYZ/Red Barchetta/A Farewell to Kings/ Rush
Billy Sheehan/On Steve Vai's Latest Live DVD release Just Smokin!
I could go on but I don't have the time

Ummm...if you're in a supergroup, which nobody disputes that DT is, then how the hell can you be underrated? :? :? :? :?

Sorry guys, I missed that one. I hope I didn't offend anyone. It's kinda hard to catch everything with a 2 year old tugging on my arm. I know DT is completely amazing all the way around but a lot of people seem to overlook Myung because the rest of the band is so amazing and you never see to many interviews by him either. It's all Petrucci and Portnoy cause they are more in your face and Myung is the quiet guy in the back holding it all together.

Be my Druidess/ Peter Steele/ Type-O-Negative
L.A. Song by Deconstruction/ Eric Avery
Invisible Sun/Synchronicity II/Walking On the Moon/ Sting

Haven't seen this guy's name on the list yet, so I thought I'd throw him in there. Matt Freeman from Rancid rights some kick-ass lines in my opinion, no always the hardest, but they don't have to be. My personal favs are Journey to the end of eastbay, Timebomb, and Daly City Train.
