Rockpage Bassists Unite
All,
Just got home from the (most excellent) Rockpage Jam for JP! As a working musician, tonight was a rare treat for me...I actually got to see other people play! I'm always blown away at how many good musicians are in our midst...and as a bassist, I take special note of our many brothers and sisters of the bottom end! Kudos to my bass colleagues for sets well played! There is some real bass talent in our area representative of many different styles!
Anyway, I was thinking....any bassists out there interested in a periodic get together to swap stories? I had a very loose idea of periodic gathering to jam, talk technique, gear, or even just shoot the breeze over some brews. After all...why should the drummers have all the fun?;)
I personally like the idea of a Rockpage Bass Coalition (or RBC for short).
BTW: Anybody who got pix of the "wall of bassists"....could you please post on this thread?

Kent, I'd definitely be into some sort of get together. Most of the local bass players I've met are very humble people who wouldn't let their egos get in the way of either teaching something or learning something. It was very cool to see many of our collegues who play the "guitar with the big strings" out in full force tonight.
Brian, we'd really appreciate the pic. I think Greg should have a pic of The Wall on his camera as well.

Same here just say when. Where can something like that go down?
Paul your rig is tight man. Thanks for letting me play it. I was really only hoping to check out the craftsmanship by eye. Carvin's quality and comfort is probably the best for the money I've ever come across.
Forty minutes after I got to the jam I got called away for an emergency so i didn't even get to see much.

Sounds like a cool idea. If I am available, I would be interested too.
It is always interesting to note that there are many very talented musicians for the size of this area compared to most parts of the country. I know that bass players are always in big demand no matter where I travel and there are quite a few very good bass players around here. I will put up many of the players from this region against anywhere. I always enjoy going to see other bands and talk shop with the bassists, many of whom have been good friends of mine for years. Many times, I wll be offered to sit in or I do the same for them when we see each other's bands out of appreciation and respect. Unfortunately, we never get to play in the same bands together. A get together would be a great way to meet and talk about guitars, amps, techniques, songs, etc.

No problem-o! I know that everyone's tastes vary, but I always like to hip people to what I dig and maybe they'll also dig it. Like I said, if you really dug the set up, I take all of my basses to Terry. http://guitarsnstuffonline.com/ If there were a Mensa for guitar set ups, he'd be the president. It was cool to see Euphoria's bass player also representing with the Carvin LB75 after our set. I've been curious to hear what a fretless Carvin sounds like through my rig.JackANSI wrote:

Also, major props to Andrea (Dick Shack Bass). I've known Andrea from about eight years ago, but she wasn't a purveyor of low-end frequencies back then...or at least I didn't know about it.

Yeah, I'm in the process of organizing a "Singer's Circle Jerk." I want to hold it some place with a lot of mirrors so we can look at ourselves the whole time we're discussing how great we are, no matter what direction you face.ToonaRockGuy wrote:Damn bass players ripping off the drummer's get-togethers.![]()

Thank you Paul, and thank you for letting me use your stuff last night! Also, major props to Andrea (Dick Shack Bass). I would be interested in a bassist get together, also. I have so so so much to learn.

In support of the Rockpage Bass Coalition, I can probably score us a nice get together spot at Saint Francis University (Loretto)...there also happens to be a bar in town for post-meeting libations.
Does the location work for y'all?

I spent many years going to school at St. Francis University; so, I think I can find it.grimmbass wrote:In support of the Rockpage Bass Coalition, I can probably score us a nice get together spot at Saint Francis University (Loretto)...there also happens to be a bar in town for post-meeting libations.

I would definately be up for this too. Being new to bass playing, I have a lot to learn, and would love to pick up some tips and tricks from the seasoned bass players out there.
I'm just a bass chick trying to stay out of treble.

St. Francis is a pretty good spot for me from where I'm living now and also when I move towards the end of the summer.
I definitely agree with Bobby; drummers and bass players getting together would be very cool as the pocket is incredibly important.

I will check in on the availability of dates and get back to you all asap. Being that this gathering will have no lead singers or guitarists, a few things are likely to happen:
1. The group will meet on time.
2. No emotional breakdowns will occur during the meeting.
3. Nobody will argue about who gets the longest solo.
4. Most everyone will play in time.
5. There probably won't be any fights about who should be loudest.
6. Nobody in the room will utter the phrase "turn the bass down."
Of course, as there are no singers or guitarists, nobody will probably get laid either....
Excited to see everyone on board!
