MY FEELINGS - THIS IS NOT POLITICAL

Post by Imgrimm01 »

This is about my feelings as a country NOT my political beliefs.

I want to say that today I am truly proud to be an American, growing up and going to school in an area like I did where racism wasn’t racism but the way things were, and slurs weren’t slurs but the way that people spoke, only when I reached young adulthood and moved out of the area for awhile did I realize that the world wasn’t the way that it had appeared for years, but then as I continued to grow and became interested in news and politics etc.. I realized in many places perhaps it was. To see an African American man elected president of the U.S. tells me we are headed in the right direction, even more so when you see the break down of who voted, 66% of the young vote… That tells me that we ( 0ur generation ) have done a better job raising our children and making them understand equality or maybe it’s better described as making them understand the evil of NON equality and racism, I voted for Obama for several personal reasons but not once did I consider not doing so because of the color of his skin, and my girls at one point last night while watching the coverage said innocently to me “ why do they keep saying this is an historic event? He’s just another guy becoming president” a typical comment for a 16 year old to make but to me it meant that they didn’t see his race as special or as if it should have been a set back, to them there was no color just a man, I smiled about having to explain. I would like to think that this Nation is headed in a new direction in many ways, it’s been stale for far tool long “Change” as Obama said is what we need and to quote him once more “YES WE CAN”
I'm glad I didn't have to fight in a war, I'm glad I didn't get killed or kill somebody, I hope my kids enjoy the same lack of manhood

The J would like to second this post.

I sat, staring at the TV, humbled by the moment. I have hope.

I hope Obama is as good a leader as he is a speaker.

I hope people don't take this as a sign that racism no longer exists, or that discrimination no longer occurs.

I hope we continue to see the real John McCain, who made a return in his concession speech, the first time in a long time that I saw the man that I said I would have voted for 8 years ago against just about anyone. His words of conciliation and cooperation were most eloquent.

I hope we can move past the partisanship and divisiveness of the last eight years. Perhaps the last 12.

I hope we can build a country that works for the benefit of as many Americans as possible, not just some Americans, in the vain - and probably insincere - belief that it will "trickle down".

I hope.
You better call me a doctor - feelin' no pain!
