Carraciolo and Tom Brunner were both in the band Pulse back in about 1981. Were Steindel or Riley in Pulse also? I remember that Steve Kelsey's brother was in that band (Pulse), but I never knew his name. That was a great band - they did a fantastic cover of "Heaven and Hell".Hurricane wrote:I remember going to the warehouse to see them practice when Detour first started. The first lineup was...

That's all I remember because I am a stoner.
If it was in 84 or 85 then you did see my other Band Tight Squeeze playing Rick Lonsinger was singing for us then. We had released about a 1000 Tight Squeeze balloons at that one. and Yes we played there in 1983 as well with Detour and yes we played Looks That Kill and Twilight zone. Good memory for a Stoner that was 25 years ago!
I will never forget the time we played at Altoona High School Auditorium. It was like a Beatles concert and the chicks were absolutely SCREAMING nuts and I thought Oh ma God they are digging us and then I looked over at Rick [aka Ricky Lee] and he had blown out the entire front of his black parachute pants doing a split and his whitey tighty's were sticking right out there! Sorry Rick but it is a funny story. :>
I believe Mr Watters will back me up on that one!
That was one of many good ones too be sure Bob!

When PULSE broke up Joe Carraciollo and Tom Brunner held auditions and hired myself Randy Riley and Bob Weidman and formed DETOUR. A lot of underage people from the day will not forget our warehouse parties!313 wrote:Carraciolo and Tom Brunner were both in the band Pulse back in about 1981. Were Steindel or Riley in Pulse also? We played a lot of shows until the bomb threats and stuff got overwhelming for Joe and he decided to quit. That was when I formed Tight Squeeze with Rich Piccorelli and Bob Watters and Dave Shaffer and Rick Lonsinger.
By the way that was also when I found 18 yr old Zilly passed out under my kitchen table. He became our soundman. That is another whole story there.

Here is a bit of video from 1984 BOTB with Tight Squeeze.
Pretty bad quality but its me and Bob Watters and Rich Piccorelli and Dave Shaffer.
By the way this was The Alamo owned by Greg Morris which is now the Red Lobster.
This was filmed the night that we beat Bashful in The Battle of the Bands from Huntingdon.

I have a question wrote:why were there bomb threats? were they from a competing band?
It was all a real shame actually!
I am really not the expert on the situation but long story short.
Joe's Dad did a lot of very bad things and families of the people that Joe's dad did things too would find out about Joe playing in the band and they would do things to Joe.
It was all very unfortunate because Joe never had anything to do with his dad and paid a price for his dad's actions. Bomb Threats, Physical Threats, that is why he quit right when we had our big breakthrough to play the Coaches Inn they threatened his girlfriend. We played the gig that night anyway with a friend of ours singing Scott Miller [Milo]. We called him at work [Pappy's Pizza] and said hey can you sing for us at the Coaches tonight with 2 hours to spare. Well needless to say we flopped and never got booked back and then Bob Weidman left to play with Slammer and I quit to form Tight Squeeze.
I am sure I could elaborate enough to write a book but I do not think it is in my place to really do so out of respect for Joe.
I just remember freezing my A** off a few nights at 12:00 AM while the police came to search for bombs.
BTW I am trying to put together a new band I have a Drummer and a Bass Player. I play guitar and I am looking for that Key ingredient to make it all work!
Let me know! I am never a dull moment when it comes to bands!!
Riff Heavy Rock and some originals.

I remember me,brian k. and a bunch of us were there and we were all stoked about them doing the crue. That's all we talked about for about a month afterwards.DickShackBass wrote:Clete, that is where I saw them, St Therese's festival. Probably there at the same time you were.
Oh someone mentioned Pappys Pizza! THE best place to go after the mall closed.
Pappy's Pizza was legendary for the good ol' dine and dash.
We used to hit that place every 2 weeks until they closed, and they never caught on. how dumb

I loved watching them toss the pizzas at pappys. I'd always go with Lisa on Fridays after the mall closed.
I was there with my step sister. She was 10 and I was 12, she had a HUGE crush on Randy, I remember his name because she talked about how cute he was for the whole summer she was here.I remember me,brian k. and a bunch of us were there and we were all stoked about them doing the crue. yeah, unfortunate thing about Joe. that whole thing with his dad played into what he wanted to do for a living and couldn't. I went to college with him, he really got me into playing in bands. I actually auditioned for a band he was trying to form back in 2000. That band never took off, most of the members went on to form the Banditos. From what I understand Joe is in Ohio somewhere.

Re: joe
That band was the short-lived FBI. We played a few times over at 30 Something (then City Limits), but it just wasn't working. Joe was a monstrous musician (keys/vocals), and a great magician. Good stage presence, but he was such a cerebral player that there was no heart in it. So some of us departed, and about 2-3 weeks later, Banditos was assembled from the remnants. Basically FBI sans Joe and adding Wally Archer (lead vocals).lynch1 wrote:yeah, unfortunate thing about Joe. that whole thing with his dad played into what he wanted to do for a living and couldn't. Last I heard, Joe had given up his job at Penn State and moved to Ohio to do street magic. The cat could do some serious card tricks that you wouldn't believe. I remember he kept a huge footlocker at his house filled with sealed new decks of cards. He was amazing with 'em.
Dood...
joe
yeah, I saw him do some pretty freaky stuff with cards and coins, all close up magic. He was awesome. actually I think you were the one that told me Joe was in Ohio. I actually wanted to book him for one of my kids b-days, but found out he was in Ohio. anyway.....it would be nice to see him back in the area.
