The Dark Knight
The Dark Knight
Effing kicks ass! Didn't see it in the theaters but got ahold of it Tuesday. I've watched it twice so far and am looking forward to watching it yet again. Very dark.
Heath Ledger ... showed Nickelson how it's done in this flick. Worst part is, no more Joker.
Great effing flick!

Please don't compare Heath Ledger to Jack. These are two complete different versions. Jacks version was supposed to be cartoonish.
Plus Jacks over 70 and still going strong. Heath is a dead junkie.

Don't get me wrong, Nickelson is near the top of my list of favorites in Hollywood — always will be — but this is what the Joker is all about — unbridled chaos. As dark as the first Keaton Batman movie was, I was always surprised the Joker wasn't done a little darker. I do love Jack's version — the villians in the following campy Batman movies sucked ass, 'cept for Michelle Phiffer's Catwoman, very hott — but Ledger's Joker is hard to beat, dead junkie or no.

i was kinda from the school of thought that you can't compare the two joker's. mostly because, as sanchez said, jack's was meant to be cartoony. honestly, ledger's joker was awsome. much more like the graphic novels. i guess when the next one comes out people will be comparing jim carry to whoever they get to play the riddler in the next one. how will you guys compare that? personally.... i think anyone will do better than jim carey.

I really want to see this movie. Usually, I shy away from superhero movies, because they're often Grade A cheese compared to the comics/graphic novels, which are usually very dark and serious (the original Ninja Turtles comic was incredibly dark when compared to the mainstream cartoon). The original Batman movie is one of the cases that the producer and writer got it right. The latest movie looks like they continued with that trend.

I really like Heath Ledger as an actor, and really really want to see this movie. I just think it's apples and oranges. Plus Jack is my favorite actor of all time. The shining and One flew over the cuckoos nest are two of the best IMO.
I wish that jack had this script when he was the Joker.

The line "Have you ever danced with the devil" is in the Slayer song called "Temptation" from the "Seasons in the Abyss" album.DirtySanchez wrote:"Did you ever dance with the devil in the pale moonlight?" <--- Classic.
It goes like this:
"Have you ever danced with the devil
His temptation ever summoned you
Ever penned your name in blood
Let possession slowly swallow you
When you stand under full moonlight
The attraction mesmerizes you
Have you ever wondered why
It seems that evil you're attracted to"
One of the many awesome lyrics by the masters...

I am excited to see this movie as well Brian, cause it was all the rage this summer, and I missed it.
BDR, is it really that good that you were able to watch it 3 times already?

yup
Just finished watching it tonight and I'm floored. Was never a huge Batman fan though, only because I read Marvel Comics.. (nerd) It's just a shame to see that much talent go to waste.
I think my favorite part was the "magic trick" with the pencil. Set the tone for just how bad ass The Joker was going to be.

I'm not doubting it is anything less than fantastic, that's why I want to watch it.
There have been very few movies that I've seen that I would watch back to back like you did Rob, and I have a good feeling that this might be one of them.
Who else is in this movie? I honestly dont know, other than Heath Ledger.

I just saw it's 1yr 1day after Ledger died, interesting. Their tribute to him that wasn't included on the DVD?

I frickin' loved this!!! Hands down the best of all of them. The Joker in this version was the way he was supposed to be. Nickleson did a great role without a doubt, but the Joker is just flat out psychotic & evil...and this was it. This has a high replay value, and I'll probably watch it at least once or twice a year.

For unfortunate reasons, I wasn't able to see the last 10mins of the movie. Damnit! But I will say this... Had I not known before watching the movie that Heath Ledger played the Joker, I NEVER would've guessed it was him. The Joker in this was absolutely psychotic, and he put on a Hell of an acting show!
As Brian said though,... You really can't compare the Nicholson rendition to the Ledger rendition. Why? Think of it like this...
The Joker in the original was scripted as a lunatic, but not outright psychotic. He wasn't malicious, just insane. When they scripted Ledger's, they put a whole different twist on it. There's a huge difference between the scripting. The acting, I think, would've filled well either way
It goes without saying that I'd actually love to see what Nicholson would've done in a similar situation. Nicholson plays a psycho very well indeed, and any of his previous works would've depicted that. There's not an issue of who's a better actor here. It just comes down to what "type" of the Joker we're looking at... A general age comic Joker cannot be compared to a graphic novel comic Joker for actor quality. You might as well try comparing a blues guitarist to a straight on metal guitarist. They play the same instrument, but it's not SUPPOSED to be the same
Rant aside, it was definitely a movie well worth watching, and I hope to see the movie in full again soon. I'm really glad they went back and explored the "Batman" character, instead of just leaving it where it was!

I hope no one here works for the postal services, because I'm getting supremely annoyed. My copy of The Dark Knight has been sitting in Warrendale's distribution center since last Wednesday.
this is getting ridiculous. it shipped from AZ last Monday and i still don't have it..they better be watching it in Warrendale because there's no reason a simple little dvd-sized box can't travel 3 hours to Altoona in ~4 business days..

Walmart had my copy on the shelf with 100 other copies Dec. 9, the day it was released. I even got a collectable Two-Face coin and a Batman comic book with it, all for the low Walmart price of $19.96, no shipping or handling charges.bfoust wrote:I hope no one here works for the postal services, because I'm getting supremely annoyed.
