New Year...New Gear!

Post by HurricaneBob »

Finally did some upgrades to the 5 year old Mapex 0rion orbitors i got from Dales 5 years ago. First off my sweet wife surprised me with a Pearl Masters 8x14 maple limited edition snare from the Music emporium! Thanks Tommy and Rick and gang!
Image

Next i went with Evans G1 coated on the toms/floor and a coated Emad on the kick. Single ply heads are the ticket for this kit. The emad is baddass thump too. Going to Clints clinic really helped me tune this kit better! Thanks Clint!
Image

Off to Dales and i picked out a 17" & 18" Custom Dark crashes, these are the exact sound i am always looking for, i tried out alot of crashes that day and these 2 hit my sweet spot plus they mesh well with my 20' K custom ride and my 14" K custom fast crash. more coming soon as i will be adding some Saludas to the mix. Thanks Kev!

Landed at K & S music in Paxinos and Dave is a treat! Dave is great friends with Louie Brumbaugh and always has funny Louie stories. I bought a Mapex triple tree cymbal stand with the ball tilters i had my eye on there from before to hang the new K's. Ill never own a ratchet stand again!

Also hit a nice used place in Scranton, got a new snare case and wheeled cymbal bag.

Anyone else get some gear for the New year?

Nice kit Bobby!

I got alot of stuff in December: Two DiMarzio FS-1 pickups, a Bill Lawrence L500L and an L500XL, Seymour Duncan Screamin Demon, GFS Lil Killer dual rail single coil,an EMG 85, rack gear,Kramer Focus, three Floyd Rose bridges, and a shit load of various other guitar parts.
So I have enough to build for a little while yet

The only thing I got this year is a Seymour Duncan Metal Livewire:
Image
Mine is the old version, which the Blackout AHB-2 is based off of. It's very hot and has a shit load of gain and low end. It's more mid focused than an EMG and it has a much different voice, but so far so good! Its a nice change and even though it's an active pup it's sort of like an in between passive and active.
It has to run on 18v so that might be why it's more pronounced and responsive. An EMG w/ the 18v mod has similar characteristics.

I'm waiting on a Rhoads body from KNE Guitars at the moment. I sold my new DK2 body and I'm using al the parts from that onto this Rhoads. I cant wait!

I got my Steinberger Spirit a Fender Superswitch and a set of Joe Barden pickups. Vicki (Shewolf) also added a new Steinberger hardshell case.

Positions 1 & 5 -- Barden 2-Tone on full HB
Position 3 - Barden S-Deluxe
Positions 2 & 4 - Twang and Quack from S-Deluxe 'tweener positions.

This is an all maple guitar and sounds a lot like a Tele on position 2.

When the weather breaks, I'm going to strip the black paint and see if it might look nicer in natural maple finish.

Or, you could buy my subs for $600 and trade them to Nitekast for a 2000 American Strat!

Just a thought.

That's some super sweet gear, guys! Bobby's kit is becoming a monster, and Joe's still the pickup guru around here. I would definitely be interested in seeing the Steinberger in natural as well.

For Christmas, my parents gave me a Warwick three-space guitar stand, and my girlfriend gave me a set of strings, which my LB75 was badly in need of. After I get books out of the way for this semester, I'm thinking about picking up a bass Muff, thanks to the fellow bass players' recomendations here, and a wah.

I got a cheap Rogue lap steel to modify (to anyone considering trying lap steel, the Rogues are $80 with legs and a gigbag, and while cheap and crappy to start, simply bolting on new tuners and a pickup really makes a huge difference), an Onstage amp stand (sweet), a used Dean Backwoods Six 6-string banjo (tuned like a guitar, so much fun), and some dobro strings and accessories.
Next, I'm hoping somebody can sell me a used 4+channel headphone amp for acoustic recording.------>JMS

I guess what gear I got for Christmas would have to be all the parts for the TRB. EMG 35p4 and 35dc pickups, aguilar obp3 pre, serzel tuners, kahler trem, and all the associated wood working done by Mark.

Non-gear related turns out to be a really wide assortment of stuff I've wanted.

Nice parts list man!
Sounds like a killer set-up, and it's nice to hear a fellow bass guy using EMG's as well. 8)
I cant wait to see the build process of this one.

Have you ever tried any of the EMG preamp or EQ's, like theB-30EQ, BTC, BQC control?

I've been thinking about the SPC, PA-2 myself. While I know the guitar and bass systems and accessories are like apples and oranges, I'm just wondering how much difference they actually make, and if it's worth the hassle to add more to the control layout.

The filter side of the pre I built for the bbn5 is loosely based on the emg btc curves. The bqc is my favorite pre of all time. I just decided that I needed a change.

Yeah I hear that.
I fear change sometimes because I sometimes end up with a guitar that I rarely play as opposed to one that I always played prior to the change.

What model of Kahler did you get? 2400, or 2440?
Do you pretty much have everything you need right now?

Yep all parts are here or with mark. I got a 7410. People want too much for beat up 2400's. And I can always change out with a 2410 when I find the right one

The 7410 is a nice unit as well. You can buy individual parts from Kahler USA for them as well.
I saw that the 2440 is $99.00 new from the site, which is sort of expensive for all that it is.

Used Kahlers and the parts are pricey and it took me about 3 months to find 1 saddle w/ intonation screw/spring, 1 finetuner, and trem springs @ a reasonable cost.

I got a nice new set of Westone UM1 earbuds. The Shure earbuds I have were just getting old and I needed/wanted a new set.
Pour me another one, cause I'll never find the silver lining in this cloud.

i got some new goodies as well. the sansamp is probably the best thing to happen to bass since leo fender made the first p-bass. i love that thing. the phaser, chorus and delay (which, the delay isn't mine, and i barely ever use it) i've had for awhile now, but the sansamp is the shit.

edit: i really need to figure out how to resize pics... anyone savvy to that?

The only thing I got that was music-related was a copy of Neil Peart's book, "Roadshow: Landscape With Drums; A Concert Tour By Motorcycle". It's a great read, and I'm taking my time with it.

(I'm a drummer, so I'm on the 4th word now. Should only take me a week or so.)

But I was kinda pissed that I didn't get any gear. So that's why I did this:

an ESP LTD KH602; it was a trade

I am really starting to dig it. I hated it at first. U would be proud Joe; I set the floyd up myself after tuning it to the beginning of the alphabet, changing strings, intonating and getting Terry's approval
