Sounds to me like it's aimed right at the Seymour Duncan AHB-1 and AHB-2 pickups.
More gain and more orgainc sounding, just like the Blackouts.
Hmmmm, I might have to grab one of these puppies!
There's an '81, '85, and '60X available!
I wonder if they are compatible with an 18v mod? I'd imagine that the preamp is going to be similar to the standard models, so I'm willing to bet that they are capable of handling up to 27v just like the originals.
They're available for our bass playing friends as well!

Been there already.. They do handle 18v, not 27v.
The bass models (not sure about the guitar ones, I tried the 35DCX) have a new 'active' tone knob.
Without that knob they sound exactly like the CS. The 35CS sounds just like the 35DCX with that tone knob.
Current draw is a little less so there is a change of circuitry inside the pickup.
I've sent it back to the place I bought it from with a nasty note for him to pass on to EMG...

You must have gotten one of the first sets because these just hit the market recently. I found out about them about 10 minutes before I posted my thread.
I saw a thread on the Jackson forum, so I simply relayed the message in case anyone else was interested..
What didn't you like about it?
How did the 35DCX differ in tone/output/EQ voicing to the original 35CS?
EMG says that these have less preamp gain to "allow the amp to have more gain as opposed to 'relying' on the EMG's internal preamp".
But this seems to be ass backwards to how they designed their products in the first place.
Seems like they are simply playing the product game to compete with the popularity of Seymour Duncan's active pups.
but what EMG doesn't realize is that the Duncans doen't come close to replicating an EMG. As a matter of fact they are almost the polar opposite of an EMG.
I guess that EMG wants to keep their buyers interest.
I know that I'm curious about them because I love active pickups and experimenting with different tones.
