Taxpayer id's for bands

Post by Lisa »

Question...and you may reply as a private message if you don't want it to be public as eyes from all over will see this...

Does your band have a taxpayer id of its own? When you play at a big corporation, do they require one?

I'm especially curious about those who get paid a set rate for each gig.

My last band had one, but only because we had formed an LLC.
Pour me another one, cause I'll never find the silver lining in this cloud.

You must be a stated corporation, partnership or proprietorship to get a separate tax ID. The band would have to be its own legal business entity. Not many people go there.

For all others, its everyone for themself and their good old SSN.

In all my 35 years in the biz, I have never been required to produce a tax number.
