I need to vent..
I need to vent..
I quit my band/project today.
I almost lost my head and ..anyways, differences of opinion..Am i wrong to say"Im not comfortable doing this song live in 2 weeks its too fast for me yet..can we put something else in its place for now?"

I have been put on the spot...meaning, we were playing one time and the guitarist and bassist started playing a song I wasn't comfortable with yet. We pulled it out but I felt it was amateur and sounded like shit. They of course agreed and we fought and bitched, but we never quit. Don't quit dude, you can DO IT!!

If its a song that really requires a 'structure' or key parts that youre not able to do, sure, sounds reasonable.
However on the other hand, I love the pressure of being told what songs gonna get played next while youre already up on the stage. Someone starts into something, you either look at the finger positions or ask what key its in, and hope you get thru it... Man i love that pressure... gets you learnin...
Hmm... I miss stagefright too...

Laugh if you want to, really is kinda funny, 'cause the world is a car and you're the crash test dummy.

Yeah, playing out half-assed isn't really a good idea. I was on the other end of a similar situation a few years back. Was playing with a new drummer for a show scheduled for three months down the road. We always asked he if he was sure he was going to be ready (because it would be his first time ever on stage), but he assured us he would. Everything was going pretty well, we might have had to omit one song he couldn't quite grasp. On the day of the show he got scared and said he wasnt't ready. So we didn't play. That sucked. Sorry, I wanted to share that experience. You're being honest and letting them know that you won't be ready in two weeks, nothin wrong with that. Did you really have to quit the band? Couldn't you just not do the song yet?

Apparently this was not an option, and to tell you the truth I was getting pretty bent being critiqued all the time ( Not constructive). As a band we litteraly did nothing together,I was told by several people who are ready play in bands, to do your best songs first and work up to the harder material ( By then your warmed up and more comfortable)There are loads of reasons why I took an out but I wont delve into that.It just wasnt fun.........
But I do love it when someone who dosent play an instrument tells me I should have a certain song :as in this is so easy to play why cant you play it?It wasnt a matter of I couldnt play it...I just cant play it well yet and didnt feel it was our strong suit.Isnt that enough?I didnt say take it out of the loop,?Just, lets not play this song on our VERY FIRST time out when we only have to come up with 15 songs? and this one is not tight because I (I) the only guitarist was not comfortable playing it....I still fill like I'm running from the Boogey man playing it?
Ok Im done venting..Have a chopper coming in ETA 5 minutes? Got to love that.

Don't quit man.Give it some time and work on the tune. You're totaly in the right.Nothing is more embarassing than watching cats playing a tune that they're not sure about or scared to play. Most people won't notice ya half assing it through, but the people that do are most likely the musicans in the crowd, and man can they be tough.Good luck bro.

ha weird that last week it was me venting and now its you venting and were "in" the same project.
id stand by your decision - just keep your head up. its frustrating for sure, but you will get through it. just keep pluggin away and somethings gonna get off the ground for ya.
and i agree with colton 100% - when you get up there and dont know the song for sure, your like ohh crap ... then ya figure the song out and nail it and its the greatest feeling ever.

lMFAO , Ill take the first option...I know this was meant as sarcasm, but the first option was the best.I actually feel , whats the word , oh ya, Releived, .. we just didnt gel.I think you should have something in common with your bandmates and be able to hang out outside of practice, I just couldnt do that in..Good news though, new project on the horizon,,That was soo fast it made my head spin, ..Thanks guys.Im over it.No more venting.mjb wrote:i say, quit man. go for it! storm out of there, pick up someone elses property and smash it up, you don't need that bullshit. sell all your stuff for cheap, and get a new hobby. or.....just tell your bandmates it might take you an extra week or two to get it.
