Practice
Seriously?
When you practice how serious are you? Do you practice your whole setlist? Stage routine? Is everything pretty methodical and serious, or is it laid back?
I'll start.
Both of my bands practice once a week (usually)
Fedup- Pretty serious, go through half set list, take a smoke break, second half setlist/ smoke break/ work on new stuff or repeat the set list depending how everyone feels. We're pretty chill, and shoot the shit, and laugh, but it's fairly serious. Usually beforehand we handle any news, scheduling, interventions etc.
The Side Effects- To even call it practice sometimes is just wrong. We BBQ, Watch the game, Drink, then go rip through the setlist and write 2 songs. haha! Sometimes we have a "serious" practice (about once every 2 months).
What I've noticed however, is that neither way is better/worse than the other. I could never picture either one changing. I guess it's just the "chemistry" thing with the band members.
So tell me about your practices. Do you have rules? No drinking? Smoking? Beans? How often? How serious?

Once weekly, if the weather's nice it's outdoors, more BS-ing than actual rehearsal because we're good friends, but we do get more done than most bands I've been in. We usually have a pretty good idea of what we want to get done beforehand, and make the best of it without being too regimented.--->JMS

My philosophy:
We rehearse once a week as a band. I practice every day. I think there is huge distinction.
Our together time is pretty serious; but we do enjoy laughing and cutting up. We try to rehearse a set at a time; but there is the occasional smoke break. We try to allocate about an hour a week into future song development; but there is no set in stone formula.
I think we are able to accomplish a lot in the relatively short period we spend together every week. The Side FX practice does sound like a nice time though...

Our drummer, singer, and first guitarist practice prolly 3 times a week. Me being from 2 and a half hours away from punxsy I can only practice every other week or so( with the band that is, not by myself), just depends. We also just picked up another guitarist from Bellefonte and hes about an hour away so he practices a little more than me with the band. If something happens that I can't practice when we write new stuff they send me rough recordings to my computer and I learn em that way.
Its pretty laid back, we don't really work on our stage routine as far as energy and our guitarist and drummer are 18 and have the attention span of 6 year olds hahaha.

We kinda do the same thing when that situation arises. Our most popular tunes I had nothing to do with in the writing processIf something happens that I can't practice when we write new stuff they send me rough recordings to my computer and I learn em that way

We (Bastards) practice Tuesdays and Thursdays. Every week. We don't call each other to see if everyone can practice. Our work is scheduled around our practice.
Everyone shows up at 7:30 and we finish at 10.
If we have a show we work up a set list,we pick from over 70 songs.
If we don't have a show we work on our new material or a new cover.
We work on our stage choreography, our pyro routine and with our back up singers.
We drink, smoke,do blow and pay for hookers.
This is why we are THE WORST BAND IN PITTSBURGH

slacker theory practice :
(every day)
6am: meet at robs
6:30 AM: group circle jerk
6:32 AM: stroke each others ego
8:15 AM: play first set
8:17 AM: yell, scream, punch and maim each other
9:53 PM: group cuddle session
10:07 PM: play second set
10:63 PM: write and work on new songs
11:h7 PM: go home and go to bed
just like to re-iterate this is daily. and we stick to this schedule exactly
but seriously, when we do practice it's pretty laid back. the trend seems to be we work on or learn new material, then we write. but other than that, it's pretty chill, and that's good. i couldn't handle it any other way...

Can you identify a genital wart?
We try to get together twice a week, we usually try to run through all our songs a couple times & spend time to write new material as well.
We've only been together as a band for a couple months, but have had some ups & downs with certain members. We are going to try to get some recording done for the next couple weeks, which is nice not needing the full band to lay down tracks.
