didn't thomas jefferson say that for peace to exist, there has to be a revolution every 20 years? you know, the blood of patriots and tyranists is the manure for the tree of peace and all that? i'm pretty sure he'd agree with the dude that took the ar-15 to the rally...

I
I don't want to take anyone's right to bear arms away. But the thought of Joe having a concealed weapon re-enforces my desire to stay home. Nothing personal Joe I just get the feeling that you might shoot people under what you perceive to be the right circumstances.
Scott Garlic on the other hand is a tragic story. I find it hard to believe in any world that this young man would have been carrying a gun. I find it harder still to think that he would have used it and shot someone. Bad things happen in the world everyday. It is not too often that I hear stories about regular people who have stopped or helped re direct any violence with the use of violence themselves. It never ends well.
The way I see it the more people who are carrying guns the better chance me or my children have of getting shot by some dumbfuck with a gun. Not you Joe but some stupid people like to wave this right around and do stupid shit like wearing guns to a presidential rally...
It is a testament to your lifestyle that you feel the need to conceal a weapon in your day to day life to feel safe among your peers.
I don't feel that need.

I feel safer with more people carrying. Usually people that carry aren't dumbfucks, that's a pretty narrow view of those that safely carry. Maybe I think people that are against guns are dumbfucks, how would that make you feel?tornandfrayed wrote:The way I see it the more people who are carrying guns the better chance me or my children have of getting shot by some dumbfuck with a gun. I'm sorry a kid got killed. You're sorry you weren't there with guns blazing. Shame on you and your Dodge City cowboy fantasies. That was a GUN that killed that boy, in the hands of a man trained to use them. Instead of wondering how a trained gun user could snap and shoot people, you'd rather ignore the bad apples. Iraq War Vet, dude. All the ingredients are there: military weapons training, responsible position, and firsthand knowledge of how devastating a bullet can be.undercoverjoe wrote:I am very glad you have this extraordinary power. I will point out to you, Eastwood, that the man knocked on the back door of the restaurant, and shot whoever opened the door. YOU would not have had ample time to pull your piece, unless you walk around with it in your hand, like robbers often do. Discretion is the better part of valor. We both happen to be doughey middle-aged white guys. Neither of us really commit crimes, cheat on our spouses, or trespass where we don't belong. I personally don't own anything worth taking a bullet for, and if you hurt my family, you'd better have more than a gun.
Relax, Joe. You're safe, there at your computer desk. The big, bad liberals don't really do guns. The only guys who can shoot you are other people like you.

and the criminals that buy them illegally. and something tells me they could care less about the law.
really, though, this whole thing can be explained by looking at the amendments to the constitution. it's quite simple. the people of this country have a right to have guns. this country was founded on revolution. i think the guys that wrote the declaration, bill of rights, and constitution really enjoyed owning guns.
"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed."
seems pretty cut and dry to me. the second amendment clearly states that people have a right to have guns.

Wow! I'm so glad you were able to clear that up. It totally makes sense now. Everyone should have guns and carry them at all times. How silly of me to think otherwise.slackin@dabass wrote:songsmith wrote:The only guys who can shoot you are other people like you.--->JMS

You claim that you will not be around when the shit goes down. How will you know when the shit goes down??????
As with the example with young Scott Garlic, no one knew when that shit would go down. But you claim you do, you will have some ability to know when this something will happen and you will not be around.

I have the extraordinary power of not getting shot. I'm in my 46th straight year of not getting shot. My secret: I'm incredibly boring. I don't hang out with bad people, don't go for walks on Lexington Ave, and most importantly, I don't screw with people if I can help it.undercoverjoe wrote: You claim that you will not be around when the shit goes down. I wonder how many people got shot in Blair County last year? It wasn't many. Five, or maybe ten, even counting those who got shot by accident. Even if it was 50, that means 175, 124 people did not get shot in Blair County last year. You and I are both in that number, unless you happen to have gotten shot secretly. If that's the case, get well soon.

And bringing up Scott Garlick again isn't doing you any favors. He never had a chance. Your being there with a gun would not have saved him. You're ignoring that part, to save your argument for guns. Invoking the memory of an innocent kid, to argue FOR the type of weapon that killed him. Spin that.--->JMS

More people die from cars than guns. We should outlaw cars.songsmith wrote:I have the extraordinary power of not getting shot. I'm in my 46th straight year of not getting shot. which begs to question... why haven't we outlawed knives? i hear about stabbings all the time. people that get killed from multiple stab wounds and whatnot. i know of more kids that accidentally cut themselves with knives than shoot themselves with guns. i'm sure statistics show that knives are involved in more accidents and crime. to this day there is no government regulation of knives, and anyone that wants to buy one and carry it can do so at k-mart, wal-mart, sears... pretty much any major department store without a waiting period or without acquiring a permit to carry a knife. why don't people try and outlaw knives?

One of my favorite quotes from All In The Family:slackin@dabass wrote:which begs to question... why haven't we outlawed knives? i hear about stabbings all the time. people that get killed from multiple stab wounds and whatnot. i know of more kids that accidentally cut themselves with knives than shoot themselves with guns. i'm sure statistics show that knives are involved in more accidents and crime. to this day there is no government regulation of knives, and anyone that wants to buy one and carry it can do so at k-mart, wal-mart, sears... pretty much any major department store without a waiting period or without acquiring a permit to carry a knife. why don't people try and outlaw knives?
--"Did you know that 65% of the people murdered in the last 10 years were killed by handguns?"-- Gloria
--"Would it make you feel any better little girl, if they was pushed out windows?"-- Archie Bunker
Oh yeah, in keeping with the spirit of a music website:
"Listen Edith, I know you're singing, you know you're singing, but the neighbors may think I'm torturing you."-- Archie Bunker
...Oh, the freedom of the day that yielded to no rule or time...
To clarify: I don't want guns to be outlawed, and believe they won't be. I agree that anything can be used to kill someone. It's not the gun. It's a screwed-up nutball who thinks he can take his gun any-effing-where-he-wants that scares me. Simply carrying a gun does not make you responsible, heroic, careful, etc. My point is that if some dingaling decides you are a worthy target, that he holds the power of life and death like so many desire, if he shoots first, the BEST you can do is hope he misses. You're not going to pull your piece, drop the safety, aim and fire in the time it takes for his bullet to reach you. That's just not reality. In addition, we do not live in Compton, Beirut, Dodge City, or the Marcy Projects. It's easy enough not to get shot. If the miniscule probability of being involved in the shit frightens you here, you should stay in your home, lock all your doors, and complain about it on the internet.

the thing about gang members is that they don't usually purchase guns legally and get permit to carry. the government regulates firearms pretty well. i'm sure the dude with the ar-15 wasn't going to shoot anyone. i'm sure that he is trying to make a point. and it's also obvious he made his point if people are still talking about it. not aimed (haha, i made a pun

Well you can sit there all day and believe, but when the government keeps coming up with more and more legislation for lawful gun owners, that's bullshit.songsmith wrote:To clarify: I don't want guns to be outlawed, and believe they won't be.
And Ryan said it right, people in gangs don't get guns legally. Law abiding gun owners shouldn't have to pay for it.
