Joe Legal vs. Jose Illegal

You have 2 families... "Joe Legal" and "Jose Illegal" . Both families have 2 parents, 2 children and live in California .

"Joe Legal" works in construction, has a Social Security Number, and makes $25.00 per hour with payroll taxes deducted.

"Jose Illegal" also works in construction, has NO Social Security Number, and gets paid $15.00 cash "under the table".

Joe Legal... $25.00 per hour x 40 hours = $1000.00 per week = $52,000 per year. Now take 30% away for state and federal tax. Joe Legal now has $31,231.00.

Jose Illegal... $15.00 per hour x 40 hours = $600.00 per week = $31,200.00 per year. Jose Illegal pays no taxes. Jose Illegal now has $31,200.00.

Joe Legal pays for Medical and Dental Insurance with limited coverage ... $1000.00 per month = $12,000.00 per year. Joe Legal now has $19,231.00.

Jose Illegal has full Medical and Dental coverage through the state and local clinics at a cost of $0.00 per year. Jose Illegal still has $31,200.00.

Joe Legal makes too much money to be eligible for Food Stamps or Welfare so Joe Legal pays for food... $1,000.00 per month = $12,000.00 per year. Joe Legal now has $7,231.00.

Jose Illegal has no documented income and is eligible for Food Stamps and Welfare. Jose Illegal still has $31,200.00.

Joe Legal pays rent of $1,000.00 per month = $12,000.00 per year. Joe Legal is now in the hole -<4>.

Jose Illegal receives a $500 per month Federal rent subsidy, which entirely pays his rent of $500.00 per month = $6,000.00 per year. Jose Illegal still has $31,200.00.

Joe Legal now works overtime on Saturdays and gets a part time job after work to make ends meet.

Jose Illegal has nights and weekends off to enjoy with his family.

Joe Legal's and Jose Illegal's children both attend the same school.

Joe Legal pays for his children's lunches while Jose Illegal's children get free government sponsored lunches.

Joe Legal's children go home after school. Jose Illegal's children have an after school ESL program which, again, is provided free of charge.

Joe Legal and Jose Illegal both enjoy the same Police and Fire Services, but Joe Legal paid for them and Jose Illegal did not pay.

There is a real problem in this country with this issue. Not just with illegals, but also the lazy legal people that take advantage of a system designed to help.
On the original issue, People here illegally should be deported with no questions asked. The gov't enforces alot of other laws right down to the letter, why not this one???? It must somehow benefit some people high up.
If youre here illegally....you shouldnt be here. Doesnt matter if youre mexican, german, english, french, chinese, russian, or even from antarctica....get your legal papers and learn the language we speak here and youre fine.
No wonder our economy sucks.

This is the kind of topic that the politic club on here should be debating...not what color shoelaces obama wears.
Alot of things would be fixed in this country if we fixed this issue.
Think of all the jobs, money and benefits that would be available then!!!!!

You can't ship them anywhere. They are going to be democrat party voters so B. Hussein and Nancy Pelosi can stay in power for another term. They will soon get full health care with the new government health care plan.

Soon the illegal Joe will call many of his relatives, grandparents, aunts and uncles who will live here on section 8 government housing and qualify for welfare and social security, which they have not paid a penny for.

Those people who were yelling at those health care town halls and Tea Parties around the country are those Legal Joes. They are starting to get pissed.

I think that it would cause an economic collapse, if all Joses got booted out of the country. I guess there are no numbers out there as to how many work in America.

Americans are too upity to do the shit jobs in the South/Southwest.

Ask American youngins to go pick crops for less than min. wage and I wonder what response you would get.

I am German/Irish... I think the problem is hundreds of years old and did not start with the Mexies... The Irish where persecuted as well when they arrived on the boats.

Bill, I posted "will be voting", which means that B. Hussein will give amnesty to 20 million or so illegals, so they will be voting for democrats.

I agree with the rest of your post. But a question. Should we jail average homeowners who hire illegals to mow their lawns because they do it for half the price of the regular lawn care workers?

If I were in charge (is that scary or what!) I would say that if you have a job that pays enough that you should be paying taxes, you HAVE to be a legal citizen to work. And the people who hire them should have to ask for proof of citizenship (no matter what their heritage is). And lock up anyone who hires an illegal.

The illegals will disappear in no time. There is a legal way to come here. Do it legally and you are welcomed to become an American and learn the English language.

I'd even give them each a ticket home and $1,000 bonus to live on when they get home until they get on their feet. That would free up jobs here and force the employers to pay a decent wage. While some costs might go up. the increased tax revenue would allow for a cut in taxes.

Since home owners don't normally have to hand out a W2, then no, they won't be prosecuted. But if they want, they can still ask for proof of citizenship.

They already do. It's called an I-9 form, and larger companies often have an HR staff member dedicated soley to the processing of such forms.

I know that Rockpage likes simple solutions to complex problems, but that inductive reasoning just isn't going to work here. Furthermore, I-9 forms are meant to determine the legality of someone working in the United States. You are stating that companies should investigate whether employees do or do not hold citizenship. Those are two different things. Should a student studying abroad be denied the opportunity to hold a part-time job because she holds a valid green card rather than being an actual citizen? What about the Brittish company that sends over a manager for a year to help facilitate a smooth organizational change during a merger? Should he go through the naturalization process just to work in America for a year?
