Lead singer/frontman etiquette
What exactly is the job description?
I'm a drummer...I just hang out with musicians.

I try to have fun and try to connect with the crowd. The one thing I know that you should not do is CRITICIZE YOUR BANDMATES ON STAGE!!! Do not look at them and say stupid crap and embarass your bandmates and more importantly yourself.
If there are technical difficulties go with the flow, talk to the crowd make something up that will keep the crowd into the band and the music.
One last thing - you can screw up all you want in practice, but it matters what you do on stage.

I may have sounded a little harsh in my previous post and prolly should not have done that .....
The job of the frontman is to build a repore (however the hell you spell it) with the crowd. The energy a frontman gives off while singing and providing showmenship gives the crowd a chance to get into the music and into the band.
I dont worry how freakin silly I look at times or like that. If I did, then I would stand there in front of the mic stand and sing and wait for the next verse or chorus. You try to get your bandmates into it so they can give off some energy as well.
As for carrying equipment. Yesterday (Sunday) was the first time we actually set something up. I carried our drummers kit in my car and then helped him set it up and then tear it down. It makes things go a little smoother and allows another band to get ready for their show. As for my own equipment, well thats another subject.

So, for all of those who might not be clear on this - check this out as an example of what NOT to do.joltinjeff wrote:I try to have fun and try to connect with the crowd. I know for a fact DirtySanchez would never do thatDirtySanchez wrote:Sounds like a Side Effects show.joltinjeff wrote:Do not look at them and say stupid crap and embarass your bandmates and more importantly yourself.

Plus a thousand. I wish I had that charisma, after 25 years as a frontdork, I still feel like I'm not fooling ANYBODY, that it's obvious what a dweeb I am. I always just did what I thought a good frontman would do, but it's like I'm playing a role.RobTheDrummer wrote:It's all about presence. Some cats just have it, some have to work their ass off to get it. Really, in the end it doesn't matter what the singer says or does. If he/she has presence and keeps the audience captivated, it doesn't matter.
Well, that and you gotta be able to sing.
Our frontman in Bradley Junction could have people hanging on every word, just naturally. I always envied that.--->JMS
