Cards for Amber

Post by nakedtwister »

Hey fellow Pagers.
I don't know how many of you seen Thursdays Altoona Mirror, but there was a story on the front page that really got to me. A 13 year old girl from Tyrone is suffering a very debilitating disease that no known cure has been found. I can't remember the name of it but it's a form of epilepsy that causes such severe seizures that she must be placed in a medically induced coma for weeks. It has damaged her brain to the point that she has the aptitude of about a 5 year old. Her way of dealing with it is that she especially enjoys well wishes in the form of cards. The family asks that no monies or gifts be sent. Only cards. Also there is a Facebook page set up to send well wishes. She is not expected to live till this coming Christmas. So lets pull together and send a very brave little girl some get wells and maybe early Christmas cards.

There is also a benefit dance slated for Jan.29 I think at the Legion. You can confirm that at the Mirror web site I believe.
Thanks,
B

They have a facebook page for her too. My heart breaks for this family. She has been ill for years now. To feel so helpless as a parent would be the worse feeling in the world.

That tears me up. That is so sad. I know Lisa you have had experience organizing benefits. If the family is having problems financially, let's try to put something REALLY BIG on. I am sure Vapor Lock will want to play. I think we as singers, guitarist, bassist, drummers, keyboardist, harmonica players, who freakin ever are very lucky to do what we do and I thank God for my talents, although some ppl dont think they are very good. But, let's do something for this little girl and her family.
Having talent is one thing....what you do with it is something else

I know that they are having one in Tyrone for her...I believe it is next weekend. It is at one of the clubs with a DJ.

As much as I would love to have one, I would be the first to admit that fundraisers at our place really do not do well. Not if you want something BIG. You need an area with a bigger population or right in Tyrone where she lives. We are just now starting to see folks from that side of the mountain but not enough to do it right.
