Congrats. I hope you enjoy it. I am envious, most everyone I know owns a house now. I will have to start looking for myself here.

Congrats man, if you aren't a handy man be prepared to learn quickly that's what I do to do. Luckily my father-in-law is a Mr. Fixit. We've had shit break that I didn't even know existed haha. Our house is good and sturdy though we have been in for a year and a half and have like 3-4 rooms remodeled and some other odds and ends.

We had a lot of ice build up herebut it didn't rip anything off. However, for the second year in a row we had water coming in the house. I'm going to put heat tape all over the gutters and house before next year. Mother nature is a bitch and sure does like to remind us who is in charge.

If you're planning renovations of any kind, DO THEM NOW. A year from now, you'll be willing to let a lot of stuff slide. My back porch has needed a new fascia board since we moved in... 5 years ago. Luckily, we did whole-house carpet, interior paint, and LR & kitchen furniture right away, so that got done.
And if you pulled $ from your 401k, be sure it goes into house payment, not renovations. We pulled 10-large towards a downpayment, found out the downpayment meant little to our monthly payment amount, and put the money towards fixing up... it cost us nearly four thousand in taxes.--->JMS

I've been in my house for 3 1/2 years. in that time the carpet is ruined, had ceilings fall, pipes bust, holes in walls, plaster crack, bad 100 year old wiring, and on and on and on. good luck, I'm about to go back to renting.
