This man is the reason why crucifixtions should be brought back and put on the television. It's one thing to have an opinion, but to be a f^king prick about it? Give me three nails, a hammer, and five minutes alone.

That guy needs to be found and shot. People like that make me ashamed to be an American. This guy obviously has no idea what a guitar can do or the fact that heavy music has saved way more people by giving them a focus in their lives. He had better start watching his back. I don't think he knows what he stirred up.

That's the beauty of America: any idiot can say whatever he/she wants to no matter how ignorant and idiotic it may be.
Of course, using a bunch of sesquipedalian words and referencing Classical composers' names doesn't make one intelligent, just pretentious.
Whether it's Dimebag's solo on Cemetary Gates, Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring, or Edvard Munch's "The Scream", great art offends a certain amount of people.
Personally, unless your name is Jesus Christ or Siddhartha Gautama, I'm going to be very skeptical of you being a moral compass. People love to define values as if they are some kind of objective entity that can be empirically measured.

You know what? Dimebag was a disciple of Randy Rhoads, who was a disciple of classical music. Dimebag could play classical stuff. He just didn't for Pantera. This guy is full of crap and is slandering the deceased, which is a pussy move IMO. Mouth off to someone who can defend themselves.

I actually got an email thru to this asshole. If you write him or, better yet, the eidtors of iconoclast.ca, please do NOT lace it with obscenities or insults. That will only prove his (idiotic) points. Here's my email:
Mr. Grim,
I am writing you, as many today undoubtedly are, in response to your article regarding Darrell Abbott's death. It is clear from your manner of writing and expression that you are an intelligent person, but I find it sad that your intelligence is overridden by your ideology. You say that Darrell's death was a result "waiting to happen" because of the style of music he played. But what you fail to recognize is that loud, aggressive music provides, among many things, an outlet for millions to vent their frustrations in life, a sense of belonging to a community in society that excludes so many, and often provides messages of self-affirmation at times when the world seems stacked against them. I gather from your pomposity and self-righteousness that you have not faced such challenges. What did your family do for a living? I'll guess it wasn't coal-mining or steel-making or car-building.
Heavy metal "music", as you so pejoratively enclose in quotation marks, rages at a system that is set up where those lucky enough to be born into privilege can rise all the way as high as President of the United States on nothing more than their last name, but those unfortunate enough to be born into the working class watch as their jobs move overseas at the whim of CEOs making 500 times the average salary of their firm's employees so that the CEO can make 1000 - or maybe 501 - times, that figure. While I do not pretend that this is a conscious perspective of the vast majority, this analysis is not born of some despised (for you) liberal ideology, nor a postmodern, "touchy-feely" psychoanalysis.
Instead, I have taken an objective look at the genre you so despise. I can respect that the aesthetics are not of your taste, but you are, frankly, wrong when you dismiss the entire field of artists and the people who do enjoy this style of expression. You are also wrong when you dismiss the musical capabilities of someone like Darrell Abbott. Just because his style does not appeal to you, you choose to trivialize his abilities. The technical skills of playing the guitar have been mastered by few better than this man. The precision, phrasing, and speed of his playing have rarely been matched. Meanwhile, dropping phrases like "hoisted on one's petard" in reference to flatulence does not make you any more clever than Darrell's straightforward middle finger in your face. It just makes you more smug and pompous, two qualities I find repugnant.
Try to use your intelligence to analyze the world critically and objectively, instead of allowing your ideology to reveal its - and your - ugly head.

You better call me a doctor - feelin' no pain!
My e-mail was eventually replied to by a very nice guy who runs a Yahoo metal music group. Mr. Grim redirected all e-mails on this subject to this guy, apparently because his was the first reply to this act of cowardice and narcissism. What a sad little man Mr. Grim is... a little Hitler who has moved to Hitler-land because nobody pays attention to him. My e-mail pointed out that Dime's name will be on people's lips for many years to come, such was his influence on a certain group of people, while W. Grim's name will be forgotten as an expatriate cry-baby. Justice, in some tiny way, has been served.
I think Bobby Lee and his posse should hack his site. Grimm vs. Grim in a cage match to the death!---->JMS

That's the funny thing about blogging - it gives a lot of self-important losers a medium to vent their psuedo-philosophical diatribes. I'm not saying that bloging makes one a loser or self-important; I'm just saying that there are a ton of people, who think that they are the next Nietchsze or someone, posting crap on the internet to feed their egos. That Dimebag blog is one such entry.songsmith wrote: What a sad little man Mr. Grim is... a little Hitler who has moved to Hitler-land because nobody pays attention to him.
I've learned that people love to whine. Wow, I have quite a cynical view about human nature; it makes me wonder why I want to become a psychologist. I guess I'll never be Abraham Maslow. I'm much to cynical for that.

BTW: Good email, J. I enjoyed the part about his parents; it kind of reminded me the Pantera song Strenght Beyond Strenght. I also took a cruise through that website. Wow, what a facist piece of shit it is! It's quite funny, though. I always like to go to that Stormfront website and laugh at all the scared little racists who are afriad of the "minorities corrupting their pure, white American culture". Good stuff!
