Our band name, The Conniptions, was a name I was saving for a number of years to use for a band. A conniption is a fit of rage or hysteria and suits a rock band. The term is not a conniption fit (that would be redundant since a conniption is a type of fit). Anyway, everybody knows what a conniption is, the name was short, recognizable, easy to remember, it fit the image of a rock band, and everybody we asked at the time liked it. Back when I was a kid, my parents, grandparents, and everybody else's would always say, "Now, don't have a conniption!"

When we started the project, we tried to come up with a name that could do a decent job of describing our act, without using the"k" word (it can be the kiss of death). In the meantime, we were beginning to assemble our song list / database and whenever we needed a label, we kinda abbreviated it to kBand. It stuck around and we never came up with anything better.

Ya got yer email, ya got yer iPod, ya got yer kBand.

I used http://www.bandnamemaker.com and it came up with the following names
  • Manufactured Collapse And The Priceless Plant
Boss Fault And The Proud Magazine
    Embryo Onto Elephant
Fixed Confession And The Hairless Baggage
    Mango Of The Benevolent Rapsody
    Flood City Brass
So we picked Flood City Brass

Perhaps the strangest irony with our new handle, The Backyard Rockers, is that I actually didn't come up with the idea to use it, even though it was right under my nose. Harmonica Dave just blurted it out in practice recently, and it was instantly unanimous that The Backyard Rockers would be our new name.

Beyond that, though, we think the name fits what we are. Our presentation is pretty casual and laid-back, almost like a pick-up session on a back porch or during a backyard picnic. Maybe the name will help us land some gigs at summertime backyard picnics or house parties.

Well, see JP, what ya need to do is find someone that knows the local music scene in the area to help spread the word. They may work at a radio station, or maybe write for a musicians magazine, some folks even have 2 hour sunday night local music programs on the radio.

Keep on keepin' on,
