suggestions for places to play in Altoona

Post by lynch1 »

I just recently got into band. Everybody is from Indiana County other than me. We will be playing around there mostly, but I would like to get some shows here in Altoona. We play everything from Adele, Miranda Lambert, U2, Iggy Pop, to Three Days Grace, Motley Crue, Joan Jett. Not sure what venues around here would be receptive to that variety. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thanks

For a new band, Aldo's would be your best bet. 4D's would also cater to that style of music, but it's more of an exclusive venue; you may want to pay your dues a little bit before trying to book there. Glenn's Place is a great venue and Joe's a good guy.

As far as Indiana area goes, I'd suggest Rayne Drop Inn, Dingbat's, BP Inn. Tim from the Coney is a very fair guy, though load-in sucks there. Rice's in Commodore is a really cool venue. I'd just suggest steering clear of the Ironwood Grill - shysters, unprofessional management, and disrespectful.
"He's the electric horseman, you better back off!" - old sKool making a reference to the culturally relevant 1979 film.

Another good place is Belmar Hotel. It's hard to get your foot in the door but they have a steady crowd (which is rare in Altoona) and have been great to work with. Plus it's easy to get to and there's no cover, so it's an easy sell to your fans.
Back in black, I need a snack...
