Eh, country's always been a singles-based style of music. It's never been about lengthy instrumental passages and epic arrangements (with the exception of some of Eric Church's material). Things like Pete Anderson running amok at the end of Long White Cadillac are really an anomaly - plus he was Dwight's producer anyways. Even Junior Brown says what he has to say and then gets out of Dodge.

I've played with Striking Matches, though, and that guy and gal are legit cats. They each could humble any Yngwie wannabe and make it look easy.

What currently passes for "country" on the radio is really just pop/rock with a fiddle, so trimming it down seems about right.
