They say that the US Hotel in Hollidaysburg is Haunted, as well as the Mishler Theater in Altoona..
They had a ghost hunt at the 4D's in Altoona about a year ago (apparently the original owner still walks the building)...I'm told that they don't have blenders in the building anymore because they used to turn on by themselves......
The Stone House on Rt 36 between East Freedom & Roaring Spring is supposedly haunted......... someone hung himself in the garage & still visits the guests at the Bed & breakfast there.
Royer Mansion in Willimsburg is also supposed to be haunted

There is a paranormal investigator... Patty something Ross???? who wrote a few books about several of the hauntings in the area

The White Lady walks the Buckhorn (great back story) and the Baker Mansion in Altoona's supposed to be lousy with the spirits of poor blue-collar-types stickin' it to the man for all eternity.
I can guess why folks think the US Hotel is haunted... there's this weird fluttery echo in the bar area, probably from the rounded chambered ceiling and the giant mirror. My ears are especially tuned to the "room sound" wherever I play or work, and this room is eerie sometimes. I thought people were singing along, and I thought, "How cool, they like my material," but I couldn't SEE anyone actually singing. Then when I did a song I had written that day, I still heard the voices singing along... impossible. I figure it's the fluttery echo. I always hear it, but it is really quiet, you have to listen close, and my monitor volume is always nearly nonexistent.
I'd like to hear a metal band try the "ghost note." 19Hz, usually from a synth or scientific oscillator. Crank it through the subs, and you can't hear it, YOU FEEL IT, like a wind not blowing in any particular direction. It's also supposed to affect the viscous fluid in the eyeball, and produce ghostlike "visions." Pink Floyd used it many years ago... how cool!----------------->JMS

Patty Wilson is the name of the somewhat local ghost hunter.

The Jean Bonnet Tavern in Bedford at the intersection of routes 30 and 31 is supposed to be a paranormal hotspot.

Gettysburg is full of haunted places as well.

Speaking of the violent deaths thing, I remember a place in the vicinity of Saxton, that is supposed to be pretty bad, the Captain Philips' Rangers Memorial monument. There's a story about the reason behind the monument here:

http://www.motherbedford.com/Phillips.htm

Plus there has supposedly been other deaths and murders near it over the past 50 years or so, including a woman that was dragged behind a car and tortured to death by some spoiled rich kids of the area, I think in the 70's or 80's. Maybe there's people here that can offer more details about that incident.

Many years ago I worked on a few plays for ACT in the Mishler, and was working back stage on props, alone for much of the show. There were nails falling all around me and other weird things. I did not believe in ghosts until that, and many other people who work in the Mishler will tell you of many other stories.

When growing up, my friend's house was haunted. We used to hear people in the upstairs apartment walking.. except nobody was living in the apartment. We named the ghost that night. And everytime we said the name, the lights blinked. Not really a scary story.. but a true one.

That place in Derry where they filmed "Night of the Living Dead" is supposedly haunted. We went there and got confronted by some big ass blue light and left...very creepy.

One of my best friends lives in a valley where on one side of the mountain is an actual satan worshipping clan and on the other side is some kind of witchcraft cult or something. Anyways, there is a cemetary up from his house of 13 kids that all died in his house on their 1st birthday (seen the cemetary, don't know about the 1st b-day though). I do know that his house had to be exorcised and it really was haunted. There are more people in bands in this area other than me that can attest to the freaky ass shit that we saw there.

There are a ton of places like that around here.

I think my toilet is haunted. Sometimes when I come home and no one is home, I get a rotten foul stench that blasts me in the face when I open the bathroom door. It could just be the local bum that sneeks into people's houses to use their toilets.............or is it?!?

The beckys grave near windber that I was at many years ago was actually
just outside Elton.

I think its mount Ariey drive. Almost right across the road from Tercek electric in Elton off rte 160. Very old small cemetry next to the woods. She was to be a witch or something along those lines or so I was told.

It's out where I grew up sort of inbetween Dilltown and Brush Valley. I could send you directions to go there if you want to.

I've been to the Resurrection Cemetary. When I lived in Pittsburgh we went out to give Damien's Grave a look. It's not really as creepy as they make it sound.

I have to say that I'm with James Randi on this subject. He started the million dollar paranormal challenge in 1964. It has yet to be claimed. The human mind is capable of all sorts of things... It is best at playing games with it's owner.

I can say that the supernatural and paranormal exists! It may in fact be our minds, but i have some other ideas for what it may be. i have witnessed "ghosts" in both hearing things and watching a vase lift off the table , then turn upside down and drop. While i lived in the basement at my dads, someone was banging on the steel door very late at night. the steel door is under a very crowded porch in which i would hear ANYONE trying to get through. the door was being knocked until i got in front of it. i thought it may have been a friend of mine. a "ghost" wasnt even on my mind for the event. when i opened the door, no one was there and the screen door which dragged on the concrete when opened was still shut. needless to say, i ran upstairs and didnt sleep in the basement for a week. it was ANOTHER incident that proved in my mind that the house was not only inhabited by us. many incidents support the theory. when i was younger, i was scared of the house, but as time went on, i became fascinated. other paranormal incidents have fueled my interest. im sure as hell not trying to film anything or even record anything. its all for personal interest. i wrote down the places you all suggested. keep 'em coming!

Well, I for one have lived in two haunted houses.

The first was a house I owned in Tyrone on Lincoln Avenue. That house still had the spirit of the old matriarch who died in our bedroom. You could just feel her presence in the house, and on occasion, my wife and daughter caught glimpses of her.

The second one, (I am getting goosebumps just thinking about it) was EXTREMELY haunted. Here are just some of the incidents:

1. Objects constantly being moved.
2. There was a window in the upstairs bedroom were EVERY night (even in the wintertime) there was a pile of dead bees on the windowsill. Clean them up, and then next morning, more dead bees.
3. If you were there alone, you would hear someone walking on the above floor, but no one was there.
4. One day my wife was taking some clothes downstairs to wash, when she felt a hand in the middle of her back PUSHING HER DOWN THE STAIRS!! Once again, no one home.
5. My daughter's bedroom was bone chilling cold, even in the summertime. We tried forcing heat into the room, and it seemed to absorb it like a black hole.
6. My brother Tim was there alone cutting grass, when he saw somebody at the Bee window. He dropped everything, left and never returned.
7. Our dog would NEVER enter the house. If we forced it in, it would sit at the door shivering and piss itself.

I lived in this rented house for less than a year (1974-1975) and I couldn't wait to get out. Now here's the kicker, the house is still standing, and has not been lived in since I left.

If you are interested, contact me and I will give you directions. The house is on route 403 north of Strongstown.
