Just got the new Musician's Friend catalog this week...does anyone else out there think that it's fucking tasteless to sell a mockup of Dime's original lightning-bolt Dean (and to sponsor a contest to win it)? I know that we've got signature axes for just about every great dead rock star, but man! The dirt on the poor guy's grave is still soft!
The man deserves some respect....I think Dean should stow the PR and the contests for a bit, and get off this poor dead man's coattails!
Long live Dime!

Here's what I wrote in my thread. It looks like I stand corrected about something. I thought the Dime sig model was a Washburn, not a Dean. I don't know what I thought that.
Is it me, or does it seem like every Tom, Dick, and Harry is trying to cash in on Dimebag Darrel's legacy? The latest Musician's Friend catalog has a big write-up about the new Dimebag Washburn. Krank amps takes every opportunity to remind us that Dime played through their rigs (which I always thought that Dime was a Randall guy up until a few months ago), and just today, I went to buy a new set of bass strings at zzounds, and saw that Dime's character was printed onto a pack of DRs.
Now, I'm never one to fault anyone for trying to make a buck, and I've never looked down on any musician for having an endorsement deal, but it seems kind of distasteful for a company to take every opportunity to ride the legacy of a dead guitar hero. Were these endorsement contracts written up prior to Dime's passing? If not, it seems rather unfair that someone who's dead doesn't have a say in the matter.
What are your thoughts?

i think someone already said this on bassist_25's thread about dime, but i would just like to know how much influence dime's estate has on this. i know you could get dimebag EVERYTHING before he died but i would be willing to bet there has probably been more stuff sold with his name on it since he died than the whole time he was in pantera/damage plan combined. and i bet washburn is pissed, they probably wish they still had a dime signature model. probably randall for that matter, when he signed on with krank i bet they lost all rights to anything with his name on it.
