They think it was electrical. I watched Channel 8 AND 10 news... apparently the fire consumed a bunch of dentures, too... 10 people interviewed, and not a tooth in the bunch. Do newspeople do that on purpose? I probably would, I guess.-------->JMS

 I have a pleasant memory of that place...at least I think it was that Sheetz! :D As long as nobody was hurt...I suppose they won't rebuild. I don't care for the "Super" Sheetz...it's too modern, I suppose, and I'm just not "with it" enough!

You know what sucks, I miss Sheetz stores! The places out here don't have MTO's or anything like Sheetz had.... :( It's all good tho...there's a Denny's about a block from my house. :D

I wouldn't be supprised if they rebuilt. Steve Sheetz ain't no dumb cookie. He was making a shitload of money off the school kids.

My sister moved to Alaska and then to Texas and she missed "Middlesworth B-B-Q Chips"...We'd always send here a care package...I'd send ya a MTO but don't eat it once it made it there a week later!

Our Sheetz here us to have pressure cooked chicken, till they stopped...there would always be a line there after a gig at The County Line! ...was good stuff at 3 am!

Saw on the 11:00 pm news last night, they are planning to rebuild, and even made comment about making it bigger than the one that burnt.

Maybe they burned it down on purpose (to put up the new store). Clearly, they wouldn't have to dispose of all those building materials! :P

I have driven from Altoona to Mount Union for Sheetz pressure cooked chicken (and potato logs). It was excellent, especially after gigs, or bean consumption. My wife was heartbroken when they stopped making it!---->JMS

If that's true that they were planning to build a new Sheetz there, then that fire might be a suspicious as the Logan Valley Mall fire. That had to be one of the most convinient fires in Altoona history. Only the oldest part of the mall burned.

I don't care for the new one. For one, I don't like the location. It's not at all convenient for me. Since it's opened, I've stopped there 3 or 4 times, tops. The interior is so freaking huge, too...ridiculous. It seems more like a grocery or department store than a Sheetz.

The new Sheetz is a whole different concept - and it's meant to be different from the original 'convenience' stores. We only go to the 'new' Sheetz for food - because stopping there for milk or bread is just maddening. What you can buy there is pretty limited too - but I won't complain about the drive thru - the service is usually pretty quick. I am sure it won't take long for the new store to be built at 7th avenue being that it was one of their most profitable stores.

If someone could send me a care package with a couple gallons of Gallikers Original Tea, that would be swell. I'd be forever grateful and I'd pay for shipping even!

Rob,

If you have any hookups in Johnstown, Gallikers sells a ready mix bottle in the pint size, just add water. We get it sent to Iraq all the time. Cant beat it.

The new one will probably be up in a few hours. I swear they're inflatable.
I wonder if the new Sheetz will have a convenient drive-up armed robbery window... you know, to compete with the Sunoco across 7th Ave. :D -------->JMS

That Mt. Union Sheetz fried chicken was delicious. I never saw it in any other Sheetz stores. Why did they only make it there?
