A lead singers best song as far as vocal power ??

I have been listening to a couple songs for the past week non stop. I mean non stop, over and over again. It's driving me nuts, as I can't get enough of it.

The name of the songs are "Street Spirit" by Radiohead and "Still Loving You" from the Scorpions. I think a lot of the Scorpions has to do with Clause Meins voice. It sounds so good on this song. It is perfect for what it is; this is his best work as far as vocal power. The Radiohead song is just plain great. I am starting to be a basket case from this one. I think this is a world record for constant repeats.

Anyway, do any of you have a song in which you think the lead singers shows his best vocal power ?? and do you have any recent tunes that you can't quit listening ??

WOW, interesting thread. I could name so many songs from Queensryche, Tool, Evanescence, KISS and yes, Slipknot, just to name a few off the top of my head.

Shinedown's singer is very powerful. Even in lower dynamic ranges.

Klaus on "Still Loving You" really is awesome..... The guy from Shinedown is really good, too. I'm trying to think of more guys from more recent music, but, as I've complained about so much, there isn't much "singing" on most new hard rock music.

My picks:

Geoff Tate from Queensryche is so the man, and I think maybe the best showcase of his voice is on "Take Hold of the Flame"... Just amazing.

Rob Halford on Judas Priest's "Victim of Changes" blows me away.

Chris Cornell on so many, but maybe the best would be "Jesus Christ Pose".

Bruce Dickinson on "Hallowed Be They Name" for Iron Maiden.

Not one we might usually think of, but Eddie Vedder on "Release" (the last song on the album "Ten") is incredible.

Myles Kennedy from Alter Bridge is impressive on "Find the Real" - I always liked playing that one.

So many others.....

Nickelback gets slammed anywhere you go, but I'm constantly amazed at how much power is in Chad Kroeger's voice. The man is an awesome rock vocalist!

Chino Moreno - Deftones "Elite" off the White Pony album. Now that's screaming. Yeah, I know there were some effects and it's not the heaviest song but still, you try that song out. I think that's his vocally commanding song.

Can't forget about Serj from System of a Down. I don't know if I could pick just one song of his though.

I always liked the late Layne Staley's vocal on Would?...... by the way anyone see the Heart Special on VH1 w/ Jerry Cantrell jamming with them. They did Would? w/ Phil Anselmo butchering the vocals and dedicated to Dime And Layne. He still seemed fuct up, even after stating he's clean and sober

Nobody has mentioned Ian Gillan yet. Just about anything is good, but "Child in Time" is a standout. I also really like the work he did w/ Black Sabbath on the "Born Again" album.

"Hallowed Be Thy Name" has already been mentioned and I think it's one of Dickinson's shining moments. Eventhough it's not as dynamic as "Hallowed...", I was just remarking the other day about the song "Revalations". I like it because they kept some of the warts on the recording and it really adds to the ambiance of the track. For example, on the line "...and I watched, and I waited for the dawn..." you can hear Bruce take this big ole gasp of air. Most people would have edited that out or redone the line, but I think it adds to the track the way it is.

Coverdale (& Glenn Hughes) on "Burn".

I hate Geoff Tate's voice. No denying his talent, though.

Halford-pick one, any one.

He's no opera singer, but I really like Zakk Wylde's vocals on the BLS stuff. They aren't technically difficult, but they really compliment the music and find a certain niche w/in the songs.

Anne Wilson-"Crazy on You" (gives me goosebumps)

Chris Cornell was the best male vocalist to emerge from the '90s.
