Drugs and Music

I read a very old post from 2004 about drugs in the area music scene. Considering that Heroin has exploded in the altoona area in the last couple of years, I'm wondering if anyone has noticed a change around the music community.

I know that the use of herion has skyrocketed due to an increased supply and lower costs. This problem is a big threat to the well being of altoona and would like to hear some thoughts on the issue.

Drugs and music.
These are a few of my favorite things.

Heroin is stupid and if you're addicted to it you are a weak fuck who deserves what you get.
I don't really see an impact on the music scene like a few years ago, but I've actually written off one time friends and distant relatives over the shit.

I personally never tried H. I like a cool buzz though from time to time.
I know one musician who never drank or even smoked pot.
One day i heard he was ripping off people to get a fix and it blew me away. I wont mention any names but some know who i mean.

Any local musicians on heroin today probably wont have any gear left to play with.

Ive also noticed junkies coming in bars trying to sell stuff to get some cash. I did get a carton of smokes for 5 bux!

herion has cost our bar to loose more money than any band ever did. Three robberies in our first 8 months. None of it was recoverable from insurances either and you think those addicts, even though caught, will ever be able to pay it back? Watch out for the upcoming meth problem too....its fast becoming the drug of choice.

Two attempts ago at starting a band, I loaned my new bass player my acoustic guitar so he could make a little spare cash. Little did I know that he would pawn my guitar for the cash to get a fix.

Needless to say, that band didn't last very long.

Therefore, still a solo act.

I've always favored green!...and hardly missed a day from 13-45 yrs old....then a good job came along that makes ya pee for employment not enjoyment..!

.....Sucks because you can be on welfare,get free money ,live in a project,take your check next door, stay home all day and party/drink and not get drug tested...whats wrong with this picture?...I could atleast earn my money to waste it away!

I come home to a neighbor who drinks everyday...no job...always a porch full of people there partying everynight waving at me ...... Makes me wonder why I stuggle!!!

I watched this video of this black guy (obviously a crackhead) smashing into cars in some parking lot. The last car he hit had what appeared to be a Fender Stratocaster in the back. The dumb shit just drops it on the blacktop and continued searching the car for valuables. It made me ill.

Had a new drummer last spring. Knew at one time he was into "stuff" but he said he
wasn't at all any longer.

Gave him a chance. Got to his first show, start time at 10, at 10:15 and on a coke high.
Was ready to send him on his way right then and there but played so we didn't have to
cancel.

He played, well, like someone on a coke high. Done, through, outta here.

People can do whatever they want, it's not my business. However, when something like
that happens, they make it my business and I don't want to be around it.

The coke thing was bad in the 80's but since then, I haven't seen a lot of hard stuff. Of course, I hang with a bit older crowd now, so that could have some bearing.
I had a conversation with someone awhile back... we agreed people take drugs for different reasons and inclinations. Some, and this group includes most musicians who have used drugs, approach it as a way to expand the mind, open creativity, and enjoy a certain pursuit like watching movies or listening to music. Others, including nearly all hard drug users, simply want to get as effed up as possible. They want to escape their life and it's problems. If you take the hard stuff long enough... mission accomplished. Permanently.----------->JMS

I can think of at least one very talented area guitar player who is totally messed up on the junk. I think that a lot of people on this forum know who I'm talking about.

I haven't really come across a lot of hard drugs in my recent gigging experiences. I suppose that's because I haven't associated with the people who would be doing that type of stuff. I do know that it's out there, and the problem is a huge cancer in Altoona. No offense to Altoonians, because I know a lot of people from there and gig their frequently, but there are parts of that town that I just hate even driving through.

Yeah, I'm a pee test guy too. Totally not fair and it even gets stupid. Not only do pee test check for off duty pot use for up to 30 days, because they check for metabolites, the test won't register positive until you've metablize the substance. That means that if you've been clean and you smoke a whole joint on the way to your test, it won't show up positive for 6 to 8 hours or until after you've already come down.
I'm a Mass Transit operator and I wouldn't disagree with an on duty test like the alcohol test and I think that it could be done. I think maybe the drug testing lobbies might be pushing this shit.

my ex broke into my house stole my guitar, playstation, about 30 dvds and video games, TWO STICKS OF FUCKING DEODERANT, my girlfriend's purses her id and ss card along with credit cards then she uses it at sheetz... we call the cops three months later they tell us..and i quote,..."we just reciveved the video from sheetz but either i could not see the plate numbers... or .. it was the wrong angle and we coudln't see the car.... or..umm.. the machine did not record that day because it was malfunctioning..." thanks detective keolhe or kely .. that doesn't even make fucking sense... if he seen it how coud it be malfunctioning???

this is what happened.. she was supposed to testify against one of altoona's biggest drug dealers... he's from jersey we will call him "tiny" for the safety of me.. and the fact that i have no eveidence also should promote that. well they couldn't very well put their witness on trial for this breaking entering and robbery because the defense lawyer would rip her apart..

so that is how i got fucked byu drug's in altoona

the cops can't even arrest the real bad guys we would probably just get medals..
