Yeah, Prince is one hella-talented dude, like him or not. Considering the on-again, off-again (mostly off-again) quality of the Super Bowl half-time show in recent years, I'm looking forward to this one.

I never liked his music at all, and still don't, its just not my cup of tea....however, I saw him perform an AMAZING version of While My Guitar Gently Weeps (I think it was a George Harrison tribute concert or something, anyone see it?), and I think he is a great guitarist. One of the best performances I have EVER seen. Don't bash a good musician because you don't like the genre.
And I do agree that this is an improvement to the drivel they usually have at the Superbowl.

Prince is extremely talented. Not my cup of tea either, but the guy is good. He can play like a thousand different intruments, or something. Plus I liked what he did a few years back. Changing his name to get out of his contract. F**K YOU IM A SYMBOL!

But I rarely ever watch the halftime show. And,unless Slayer would play, I doubt I ever will. I just caught the Stones from Superbowl XL, last week, when the NFL network replayed the game. What I find odd is Prince being chosen for the show, in the first place. Ever since the 'Janet Incident' the networks have been making safe choices, when picking the half time show. (Sir Paul and The Stones) But Prince has a history of shocking performances on live TV. Could we be in for another one?

I would assume that the job of picking halftime talent sucks!! Just imagine the age span of the fan base that will be at or watching the Super Bowl. I would agree that Prince may not be the best choice as far as the "average age" of the fans but most people now who he is.....musician and non-musician.

A good twist to the thread would be to suggest who would be a great halftime show. ???????

I agree that Prince is very a very talednted musician, singer, and performer. The last few years the Super Bowl had British entertainment for an American sport (even though it is broadcast worldwide, which is another reason they may look for internationally know artists). The half time entertainment is usually hit or miss.
The Rolling Stones were bad
Paul McCartney was good
U2 was good
The Aerosmith, Britney Spears, Mary J. Blige, Nelly, 'N Sync, show was awful
The Sting, No Doubt show was terrible but Shania Twain was on the same show and did fine
The Janet Jackson, Justin Timberlake, Nelly, P. Diddy, Kid Rock debacle was horrible from beginning to end.
I remember when they had ZZ Top on one and they lipsynched.

It's top 40 cuz it appeals to the masses right. I wasn't knocking princes talent, his time has come and gone that's all. I mean the stones are/were
talented too right, but their performance was shitty IMO.

Actually, his time hasn't come and gone. He's been around for years and he was never really that mainstream. He's had albums out in 2004 and 2006.

The hard part is that there is nothing that practically everyone in the world likes. You're talking an audience I believe somewhere above 1 billion and you have to find something. Honestly, if it were up to me, I'd like to see someone like Slayer and, like has already been said, won't watch until it is something like that. But, to appeal to everyone, I'd choose some highly popular classic rock band.

I was in the Marine Corps. with a guy that knew Prince,they were neighbors or some shit. My buddy used to fix his motorcycle and in return Prince bought him a Snap On tool set. He did say he was a strange dude tho!!

No? Then I suggest Grand Funk Railroad reuniting for it. What more could you ask for? An all-American, ass-kicking band that deserves a show of that magnitude. Besides "We're An American Band", they could do their '70's version of "The Locomotion" & people of all ages would be into it.
