Rolling Stone Magazine top 25 guilty pleasures

Rolling Stone Magazine just published their top 25 guilty pleasure bands or artists as selected by its readers. If listening to bands like Rush, Kansas, Boston, Foreigner, and Styx are a guilty pleasure, then I am guilty as charged. There are a few on this list like New Edition, Britney Spears, ABBA, Wham, and Kelly Clarkson that would never listen to but I have listened to and even played songs by all the others at some point for some reason.

Instrumentally they may be gods, but I can't stand it.

I however think they should not be considered a guilty pleasure because they are a very successful and credible band.

I thought there would be more Flock of Seagulls types on the list.

Alot more people listen to ABBA than you think. People shouldn't be ashamed to admit that they have a wide & varied appreciation of music from certain eras or genres. As far as Kelly Clarkson & Britney Spears go, they have the additional asset of being eye candy. Now that's a guilty pleasure!

I think the biggest guilty pleasure in my CD collection is TLC's CrazySexyCool. It's a great little piece of neo-R&B grooves.

I think the weirdest thing in my collection is Genesis and Phil Collins. Collins and Gabriel have great voices, and the production on their albums are insanely good. I like Journey also. Steve Perry, enough said.

Rush brings back memories for me. Their 2112 album seemed to show up at a lot of parties I went to. I had a lot of good times while listening to it. I've never been a huge fan of theirs, but when someone mentions them, I always think about that album and about good times. It almost seems like a good title for a new thread....Albums that bring back the most memories. It's probably already been done though.

My son asked me why I have no Rush albums, tapes or cds, and the answer is the same, I cannot take that guys vocals. About the same to me as scratching a chalk board.

I have a massive and diverse collection of music including hard rock, metal, jazz, fusion, progressive, pop, blues, southern rock, country, 80's dance and quirky tunes, symphony, some other things, and even Josh Groban and Andrea Bocelli (those guys can sing).

Some of the 60's and 70's groups that had big hits are now considered guilty pleasures but I enjoyed their songs then and still do. Many of these groups were very talented and some songs just bring back certain memories like the goofy bubble gum songs. For some reason, they just sounded like fun songs even though they had little musical substance.

Also, I was just listening to Tommy James & The Shondells, Paul Revere & The Raiders, Three Dog Night, The Turtles, and America. My current band plays Hanky Panky by Tommy James & The Shondells, I'm Not Your Steppin' Stone by The Monkees & Paul Revere & The Raiders, A Horse With No Name by America, and Happy Together by The Turtles and people really like those songs. They are just simple, fun, party songs.
