A friendly English reminder from your local Captain Grammar

Fellow Rockpagers, it has come to my attention that many of you are improperly employing the comma when using quotations.

Remember, the comma goes outside of the quotations when appearing in front of the word or clause that you wish to surround in quotations; on the otherhand, the comma goes inside of the quotations when appearing at the end.

For example: "That new Hanson song rocks," said the enthusiastic fan, "They have evolved so much now that they are employing C# tuning, death metal growls, and blast beats into their music."

I really do try to stay at least close, grammatically-speaking. I think I have a psychological need not to sound like a hillbilly, despite the obvious point that I am one. (I wish they had a little hillbilly emoticon, with bucked teeth, and webbed toes, to fit right here.)------->JMS

I often see some common spelling errors on here such as:

Instead of the word probably, I see prolly, which makes no sense at all.

Instead of etc., I see ect.
