BCS - Penn State still # 3

Post by Hawk »

BCS still has Penn State at #3. Alabama has played a weaker schedule IMO. Texas Tech is good. But from #7 to #2 ?

The coaches poll and the Harris poll each have Penn State #2.

Tech still has a rough schedule and if they win out I will agree they deserve to be in the top 2.

PSU...

PSU.... Will NOT be in the National Championship game... It will be a "1 loss" team from the south... Or 2 "1 lose" teams....
Kickin' like a one legged chicken....

Alabama will lose to Florida in the SEC championship game
Texas Tech will win out, win the Big 12 championship and finish BCS #1
PSU will win out and finish BCS #2, just barely in front of 1-loss #3 Florida

It will be Texas Tech vs. Penn State for the championship in Miami

almost lonewolf, but here is another scenario....Alabama (if they beat LSU) will definitely win out but lose to Florida in the SEC championship....Texas Tech will lose to either Oklahoma State (not likely) or Oklahoma (very likely) in a regular season game (which will put PSU in the #2 or #1 spot BEFORE the SEC or Big 12 championship games), and oh yeah, PSU will play Florida in Miami for the national championship because the pollsters would keep them at #3 if that's where they are, but they will not bump them out of #2 or #1

btw, the media is obviously not enamored by the Big Ten conference at all and especially from an offensive standpoint, but NONE of the Big 12 or SEC teams can match Penn State's defense (except maybe Florida)

should be interesting!!!

That would be my #2 scenario. I think Tech has a better that 50/50 chance to win out...but you never know.

i've been looking for tix on line, anybody have a good sight for tix. i'm perinoid about buying stuff on line. cheapest i found so far is around 600 give or take a couple. we're thinking of just buying them now and if psu doesn't go, resale them. maybe even make a couple bucks. or should we wait a while yet? tough call.

does that sound like a ridiculous plan? maybe even far-fetched.

i - don't think so

wife ..........thinks so.

discuss.

Assuming that you have the means to sell it online (i.e. eBay & Paypal and have a feedback rating of over 10), you should at least double your money if PSU doesn't go and you wait for the final BCS decision to resell it. By the same token, you will spend at least double if you wait until the BCS decision to buy the tickets.

I think as long as Penn State takes care of their business the next three weeks, they should be in the BCS Championship game. I can't see the human factor (particularly the USA Today Coaches poll, which is part of the BCS equation) jumping a one-loss team over Penn State, especially given JoePa's health and that it might be his swan song as coach. (The BCS computers are another story.) If that would happen, all hell would break loose.

I do think Penn State has to win convincingly in all three games. And in the Indiana game, they can't do what they did in 1994 and let up on Indiana if they're leading big in the 4th quarter, lest they give pollsters any reason to jump other teams over the Lions.

I think both Texas Tech and Alabama will lose. Ideally, I'd like to see Tech lose to Oklahoma State and beat Oklahoma, and then Oklahoma beat Oklahoma State in their backyard brawl to give both Oklahoma teams two losses. Then Texas Tech or Texas faces Missouri (likely) in the Big 12 Championship Game, and maybe Chase Daniel has a great day and leads Missou to the upset win, taking the Big 12 out of the BCS Championship Game totally...

If Alabama doesn't lose at LSU this weekend, I don't see them beating Florida in the SEC Championship Game. I'm thinking it will be Penn State vs. Florida for all the BCS marbles.

If both Texas Tech and Alabama win out, the Lions are screwed.

Interestingly enough, Penn State critics point to their weak schedule and especially the opener against Division 1-AA Coastal Carolina. But the reason Coastal Carolina was on the Nits' schedule was to replace Alabama, who cancelled out of the Lions' 2008 schedule a couple of years ago. If Alabama had remained and played the Lions this year, one of the two teams wouldn't be talking about BCS Championship at this point.

Also, I'm a little skeptical about how "great" the Big 12 Conference is this year. If you look at the schedules of Texas Tech, Texas, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State, none of the four played tough non-conference schedules. Texas Tech played TWO Division 1-AA schools (and still got jumped over Penn State), Texas' "toughest" non-conference opponent was a down Arkansas team, Oklahoma State played a weak non-conference schedule, and only Oklahoma played a ranked opponent in their non-conference schedule, beating up on then-number 24 TCU. All four teams' marquee wins are in conference against each other. I wouldn't be surprised to see at least a few of these Big 12 teams get beaten in their bowl games (as has happened in the past), after being overrated by the sports press once again...

One thing to remember... Penn State has always kicked ass at bowl games.
I don't think it matters who they play, if they go to Miami, they will win.
... and then the wheel fell off.
