An FBI agent with local ties was shot and killed near Pittsburgh Tuesday.
Special Agent Samuel Hicks, 33, was serving a warrant at a home in Indiana Township, Allegheny County, when he was allegedly shot by a suspected cocaine dealer.
Hicks has family in the Rockwood, Somerset County area and at one time lived there.
A spokesman for the FBI said Hicks was shot around 6 a.m. as he and other law enforcement officials tried to serve a warrant at the home.
The homeowner and suspect, Robert Korbe was arrested and is expected to appear in federal court later on Wednesday.
Korbe is one of 35 people charged in a 27-count drug-trafficking indictment.
Hicks’ colleagues said they are deeply saddened by his death.
"As head of the FBI office, this is the most tragic information to deliver to spouse, children and colleagues.. Special Agent Hicks made ultimate sacrifice. (He) will be greatly missed by colleagues here in Pittsburgh and throughout the FBI,” said Special Agent in Charge Mike Rodriguez.
Hick had been stationed in Pittsburgh since August 2007 and had been with the FBI since March 2007. He was a former Baltimore police officer and school teacher.
